I've got the 98 and 2000 compliant software but it'll do you no good without having the software/comms protection dongle.

See the dongle in the photo, you need it.
Your Microtech also needs a firmware update, you can't just load the software on and plug in the dongle and expect it to work.
Micortech can only do that, if your Micortech is an LTX8 than its all good but its most likely an MTX8.

LTX is "L" for laptop programmable. It comes with the new firmware to enable laptop programming.
The MTX is the old type with hand held interface. It can be uprgraded, they swap the old chip for a new one with the newr firmware on it and it becomes an LTX.
Costs $200 with software and dongle included.

Ahhh thanks for that
How much would an LXT8 set somone back? And do the LXT's have the same arse raping fuel economy as the MTX?(well tahts just what i've read in a few articles...real life experience = zilch)

LTX is identical to MTX it's jsut the firmware is different for the laptop tuneability and the LTX has 4 memory locations for different maps for say race track work and street work.
As for the fuel economy thing that bullshit. If your tuneing a car for say 13:1 af ratios it doesn't matter what computer you put on it, it'll use the same amount of fuel.
It ultimately comes down to the tuner.

Ok
Just so i have this right in my head you're saying that the fuel economy ultimatly comes down to the individual tuner and that it can be economical?

Exactly.....setup your cruise maps on the microtech and you'll be fine.
People want economy but want to drive powerful cars! It doesn't work, to make big power you need lots of fuel otherwise you'll be running lean. Thats the whole point of air/fuel ratios, they give longevity to the engine and stave off detonation.

yes its the same, they wouldn't bother re-designing the whole software package for a model with more injector and igniter outputs.
I've got the software but its useless without the dongle as it says above.

Cant do it with digi 1.
Once you get used to the laptop version its alot better than the hand controller, faster too.
You can see the whole curve and pretty much predict the curve and then just make a few fine adjustments to get it spot on. You could basically tune a new engine in about an hour or two if you were good.
With the handset you can only see numbers like 1.12msec, 1.15msec and these are difficult to grasp in numerical form.
Put them on a graph with the laptop software and its a whole lot better, and you tune each point on the graph up or down depending on what you want.

I'm actually playing around with making my own a the moment. Just haven't got far into it yet. Probably just a VB app (which I think the microtech software is made in) or maybe a vc++ app haven't decided. It won't do tuning at first since I don't know how it handles that yet but I think data logging would be pretty easy and you could use that as a guide to handset tuning. Measure vacume, a/f, temps, TPS, and time so you can go for a drive, come back and make your own graphs from the data, say vacume vs a/f or inj. times vs a/f etc.
SUPRAGATE, feel like uploading a copy for me? Would like to play around with it, i could probably borrow a dongle (or remove protection )

Treuno, it can be uprgraded to LTX from MT, send it to Microtech and they do it.
Will, i could email it to you from my work address. You reckon you can remove the software protection? Give it a bearl!
The LTX has got data logging, everything imagainable.

Just going through some old threads, looks like I forgot to reply to this on e(i meant to ). Would be great if you could send me a copy. The one I made in VB gathers data but I can't get it to decifer it, will need to play around heaps more. The strange thing is I can get input from my VB but not using hyperterminal or similar utils. So yeah if I could have a copy of the software would be really good. Thanks.

Thats not quite correct, there are a lot of differences in the box, the main difference is the interpolation between load maps, this is where the fuel economy comes from when tuned properly, most cases toyotas will have a hell lean cruse (18:1) and have no problems at all, all the 4ages i have done have really lean cruses and use bugger all fuel, even the misses starlet with the factory computer will go to 17:1 on cruse!
i have tuned a subaru rs with sti motor and it was getting over 400km to a tank no worries at all,
