Minimum cost of 1G --> RA65

I know this question has popped up before, but: if you did as much work as pissible yourself, how cheaply can this swap be done?
Seems to me that if you buy a frontcut, a lot of the wiring loom hassles would be easier to begin with for starters.

Well yeah, the half cut does make it easier, but not really for the wiring. The only reason it can help in that matter is because you get all the relays that you need in the front cut to wire the computer. (i recommend gettin a front cut for sure tho!)
i cant speak from experience with an RA65, but in my RA23, i have done everything, bar making a radiator. i still havent tallied up my bills, some of the things you need to consider are:
(my prices below)
Half cut:$1600 Fuel lines:$60 Fuel Pump: $150 New Engine mounts: $170 Gear box cross member: did it myself Wiring: did it myself Intercooler plumbing and pipework: $50 (just for the pipes) Thermo's: $100 Radiator: $340
and F**k knows how many hours i spent putting it all together! its alot tho!!! still not quite done!!!!!
Anyway i hope this gives you an idea of what can be done if you do the work your self in your car, and you've gotta be prepared to put the hours in!
So yeah they are my prices, but i shopped around alot and found the bargains, so for me so far, about $2500. and probably a few other small things here and there i forgot like rubber hoses anc clamps etc...

Thanks for the reply. I always figured it'd cost a whole heap more than that. I already have EFI and all the required lines/fuelpump etc. It's something I really want to do, when I have the money, but I've always wondered how much exactly I'd need.
I figure front cut, new clutch, engine mounts, sump modification, electric fan, moving the rad forward, misc pipes etc, new exhaust.... have I missed anything?

Um, not sure, heres a list of stuff I worked out for putting it into my RA60.
GA70 Supra front cut $2200 3” Exhaust with cat $850 Clutch $350 Thrust Bearing $20 MA61 fuel tank $40 Fuel Line (4m) $150 Hose Clamps $50 Engine Oil $50 Gearbox Oil $20 Coolant $20 Oil Filter $10 Air Filter $40 Fuel Filter $30 Timing Belt $50 Silicon Intercooler Piping $........ Clutch Hydraulic Hose $95
Obviously you wont need the fuel tank or the fuel lines...the clutch hydraulic hose was for a reason...? I've added in all the extras which you forget about, all rough prices. The reason the front-cut costs so much is because its the latest version and I live in Perth. Its missing the mounts there too because no one could give me a straight answer about how to do it.
Good Luck and have fun! Hope this helps

Oh, and for the sump, try to find one off early water-cooled 1GGTE's or find a 1GGE or 1GEU...they would be the best options.

Thanks. I live in Hobart so it's probably a similar story. I'm not actually about to do this YET, but if I could work out that it would only cost 3 grand or whatever, I have somethign to shoot for once I have a real job etc

Are you actually going to go through with the swap, or did you just work a quote out of interest? Any idea of the price of a NA 1G-GE front cut?

Nah, I'm planning to put a 1UZFE into a Mk2 Supra. I had priced it up because I'd wanted to do it. I thought about it though, there are a few nagging problems which shit me about my car, my crappy old engine is in good health, so I'm going to use my Celica as my runabout. I also found that if I spent all my time trying to drive and work on my car at the same time I tend to muck things up because I'm rushing. This way I can just work on the Supra, then drive around in a reliable car

I've been looking into this stefan, as it was an option
3 biggests costs :
Front cut: $1300 if you're willing to wait a while and shop around
Exhaust: around $750, depending on what you want/where you go
Engineers certificate: $500 (i think?)
and remember, once you start going into details (plumbing etc) it always gets more expensive than you'd think

there's prolly a bit more involved when you're shoe-horning a 1G-GTE into an RA65 but that said, I also thought the $500 was a bit much someone else quoted ... maybe that included rego... ?

Cost of engineering

My car cost $350 to engineer.
But I think the new laws have already come into effect (??) which means the cost of an engineers certificate is around the $1300 area now....

$1300 ????....holy shit that has got to stop a few people putting in engines legally
just out of interest Nark, did you use the 21r crossmember/engine mount for the 1g, i think i may have read it somewhere on your page, was it modified at all??.....or did you just grab the crossmember/engine mount from the supra and it bolted in to the right spot ?

I used the RA60 crossmember, but welded cut-down Landcruiser mounts onto it.
Yup, you heard right $1300. Not sure when the crossover date was. Either 1st of June or 1st of July.

If u want a 1GGEU from a GA70 Supra, I'll have 1 soon...it'll be straight out my car. ???
Front cut will be easy, but if the person u get the engine from gives u the stuff as if u bought a front cut, it'd be alright. Like if I sold my engine then I'd give everything that i wouldnt need and pull it out as if I was pulling it out of a front cut.

i dont know if i will be able to make that one, so ill look forward to january instead
nark i think in a race i "might" pop off the start line quicker but after 100km/h i doubt i would keep up, you would have a lot more top end...it would be good for a laugh anyway, seeing as we both have the same chassis (coupe/hatch) nearly and driveline
i just checked the records no way am i going to be able to beat the class i would be in, how can a (soon to be) 22rze beat a 1jzgte...
