	| I thinks its easier to do a 1G conversion in a TA23 because it uses a cross member to suit a front sump | |

	| Yup, TA23s and RA23s are the same, chassis-wise. | |

	| TA23 and RA23 are basically same car with different engines and gearboxes. * The TA23 better as it has the crossmember you need for the big front- mount sump with the factory goodies (baffles, trapdoor, windage tray) as found on most water-to-air intercooled 1Gs.
 * Its also easier to do a rack and pinion steering setup later. and;
*Its easier to get the motor back further

 Good Luck!

	| nup i believe there are 3 types of sumps
 front
 mid
 and mid/rear

 the mid/rear is most common

	| Hey Dave, Good to see you on the Net again!

From what I know, front sumps came in Gen 1 1G-GTE's, 1G-GZEs, and 1G-GEs. Wasn't aware that there were different types of front sump!

The mid/rear sumps seem to be the ones found on the later model 1G-GTEs.

Soo, if you have a front sump, get a TA23 crossmember.
If you have a mid/rear, you have to modify it slightly with a big arse hammer and stick it behind an RA23 crossmember.

This applies to RA40s too. Not sure about what you'd do if you had a front sump...

My RA60 uses a front sump.

	| Hey Nark, did you have any clearance issues with the swaybar? I'm helping a friend put a 1G in an ST141 Corona, and we're not sure if a front sump is going to cause us grief. The engine is out of a GA70 so it's a mid-rear... any idea which type of sump we should be tracking down? FWIW we're using a crossmember from an RT142 (22R-E engine) so it should be much the same as an RA60 1G conversion.

	| Well, I have a front sump and I needed a new swaybar made up for it.
I've never actually looked at how the mid/rear will sit in the RA60, so I can't really help you there.

Just see if it will fit, otherwise, you may have to track down a front sump.

The front sump, as Dave said, is the best sump configuration for the 1G. It's larger, has the wings, and has better internal baffling.

	| There's one more. The Mid Rear on the gen 3 motor is different from the mid rear from the earlier motors. It is not as deep.

	| The mid-rear sump definitely won't fit; the RT142 crossmember requires a front sump. What I meant was, after this discussion of different front-sump configurations, should I be looking for a specific model which will clear the swaybar? From your post it sounds like the swaybar will have to go, which is what I kinda suspected.
