Thermal fans on AE82 Corolla Thu, 13 June 2002 08:05 Go to next message
Hey all,

I just picked up my 86 Corolla today and noticed that when sitting in traffic the temp will slowly rise till about 3/4 of the way to the red part of the gauge. In a car park I watched the temp and took a look at the thermal fans and the fans do come on at about the 3/4 mark and then shut off when the gauge is reading 1/2.

My question is isn't this a bit too hot? Shouldn't the fans be comming on earlier and more often therefore keeping the temp more constant?

What should I check/replace to fix this?

Thanks in advance.

Steve.

Thanks guys.

I guess it is just some quirk of the Corolla. I thought the temp should stay more stable but so long as it dosen't go into the red I guess it will be ok.

Later,

Steve.

maybe give your cooling system a flush and get the mixture right? I know that after topping mine up with just water everytime it was down for about 20,000k's and it would get into the upper ranges. Since having it flushed it is back to 1/2 heat...

Just a suggestion

Mine does exactly the same thing.

Its not a real temperature gauge (ie doesnt actualy tell you the temp, just a relitive indication) as long as its under the red, i wouldnt worry.
