Huge smoke problem following turbo conversion!

Ive got a 1997 AE115 4wd wagon with a 7AFE engine. I recently turbocharged it using a T25. Heres the scenario - wondering if anyone can offer any advice!
After installation was complete started her up and went for a drive. Masses of blue\grey smoke out the back and smell of burning oil. I was told 1) turbo needs a reco and 2) need to put a restrictor in oil feed to turbo.
After a full rebuild of the T25 (with interlocking oil seal) and putting a 2mm restrictor in the oil feed line it *still* smokes HEAPS (although less than before).
Has anyone else out there turbocharged a 7AFE (or poss even a 4AGE as they have quite a few similarities) and had similar problems? If so how did you solve them?
Any advice welcome!

is the restrictor the right one for that specific turbo? sounds to me that oil is still getting past the seals in the turbo (ie: far too much pressure)

My oil feed line is about 5mm, and i was told to put in a 2mm restrictor (which seems to work with 4AGES apparently?!?- so ive been told). My first thought was to restrict it further - but with say only a 1mm hole feeding oil to the turbo i dont want to run the risk of the flow not being enough or the feed getting blocked! It does sound that my high oil pressure could be the problem though, right? (i am told 4AGES run very high oil pressure and maybe the 7AFE is the same?
What size do other people use on their turbo conversions (particularly with a T25?).

i'd either go to a turbo place who stock these turbos and seek their opinion - i think you said it was rebuilt - they should know what sorta oil pressure it needs...and thus what restrictor to fit!
failing that find someone who has a T25 (from memory they're from a CA18DET?) and ask away?

Another possibility is that by the way you have set up your crankcase breathing, the sump may be becoming pressurised with boost. High crankcase pressure will also cause a turbo to smoke. Try removing the breather lines from the intake tract (block up the holes) and vent the breather lines to atmosphere.

What about the turbo oil drainage? Is the drain pipe of adequate diameter? Is it kinked? Is the path is wholly down from the turbo to crankcase/sump?

The drainage pipe does not seem to be blocked and this pipe runs both down-hill freom the turbo and enters well above sump oil level.
Several people have suggested i might have a breather problem, with boost pressurising the crank case causing oil flow out of the turbo to be inhibited... (at least thats how i understand it - anyone feel free to correct me if im wrong).
I seem to have 2 pipes that are probably breather pipes entering the rocker cover. 1 leads directly to the intake plenum, and im not 100% where the other leads - i will have to have a closer look when i get home tonight.
I just have to work out which of these 4 possible inlets/outlets (2 on each pipe) to block and which to vent to atmosphere!

Vent the cam cover ends and block the other 2.

thnx
Ill try it out this evening and prey i dont leave a military spec smoke screen behind me when i take it for a spin! (although it will likely take some time to burn all the oil out thats in exhaust system etc!

I've used both RB20+25 turbos on my 4ag, and initially had a little bit of the same problem. The main things are oil return, restrictor and crankcase venting, as already said. To check out crankcase venting, remove the oil cap and tie some rag loosely in place of it, so everything case breathe (and make a mess! buy hey). Also the oil restrictor hole is less than 1mm from memory, damned tiny.

does it only blow smoke on boost? If its on vacuum as well, then its not your breather setup.. I'm assuming you already had the 7AFE running before without the turbo & with no smoke?
where does this info come from regarding 4AGE's running high oil pressure ? Mine doesnt...

Dude foe sure it will be your grank case breather. I had the same problem and after spending money on turbo recon and mounting the turbo higher, I took the oil cap off and no smoke.
DOH Then I set my cam covers up with an inch breather to a catch can bye bye problem. It plagued me for months now I can pull up at the lights without people pointing.

Wahoo! Problem solved! Was indeed the need for a crankcase breather. Just 1 small breather hole made a world of difference. Maybe i will look into making a larger breather hole at some stage iff necc. Anyhow 99% of the smoke problems have gone and i *think* the remaining small ammt of smoke is just oil in my mufflers etc.
THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR HELP!
