my clutch smells - bad Tue, 04 March 2003 07:41 Go to next message
the other night, I was dragging a bike (as you do) and when I pulled the clutch out, I sat on the spot, tyres ont moving, and engine at redline. I quickly stopped and figured I'd screwed my clutch.

now day later, my clutch still smells when I'm driving (though nothing compared to the stench of last night) but it's gripping fine. I've given it a few hard launches, and there's no slippage.

is the burning smell just a residual, or am I still burning my clutch?

sounds like your clutch is on the way in general.

if it slipped once in such a big way, expect it to keep slipping and get gradually worse. you might notice on down shit into corners, when you plant it, it doesnt feel as 'crisp' - thatll be a pretty good indicator.

that's what I was thinking.
it feels a little more forgiving on the changes than I remember, but of course now I'm looking for it so it could just be me.

no clutch smell on the run just then, although it was gentle. Time shall tell

Nice smell isn't it?? Smile

I've had that happen. All the dragging may have heated it up a bit. But yeah, sounds as though one day it will shat itself.
