has anyone had any experience with the unichip ecu? iwas reading a article comparing it to a microtech and it came out in front. i seem to be forever hearing about cars with microtechs but i cant think of one that has a unichip! is there a good reason for this?

thanks

you can't tune the unichip yourself or get anyone else to tune it. You have to go back to the dealer and get charged the expensive rate.

Its not an ecu either. Its a piggyback tool that either modifies inputs to ecu to make changes or shifts outputs earlier or later from the ecu.

There are pluses like price and easier installation but thats cause it's not a whole engine managment system.

true. don't always trust articles as some of the authors are paid to write it. They're ads more than articles.

Yah, the unichip is only an input/output signal modifier that needs to be used along with an existing ECU. It has a place where moderate adjustments need to be made to a stock management system, e.g. leaning out WOT slightly, or taking out some advance when boost is wound up. Beyond a certain limit, either the original mapping needs to be altered, or another ECU altogether fitted.

ok cool
i had no idea you had to take them back to the dealer to get them tuned! thought it sounded to good to be true!
i understood they were a piggy back ecu and id thought that wouldent be such a bad idea eg. leave the cold start, knock detection, fan control ect, ect to the original ecu and just modify what you have to.
