costs of conversion Thu, 13 June 2002 13:43 Go to next message
I know someone posted a thread like this just a few days ago, but I'm after costs of this specific conversion, or any common costs....

all I can think of is:

MA61 : $???
1JZ-GTE front cut (any help on what type?) $2500
consumables $150
engineers certificate $500 (?)
exhaust $850 (?)
extras $1000

plus a few cases of beer for anyone who's gonna help me get this thing in Smile I've allowed a lot of extras for things like the steel for the engine mounts, possibly an air pod .. etc etc

Hmmmm,

I can think of:

Drive Belts
Timing Belt
Clutch Kit
Intercooler Piping
Equipment Hire (you may have friends with everythin ya need)
Custom Tailshaft? (Dunno if it's needed, I guess it depends what tranny you use and if the R154 bolts up and the original shaft is a perfect fit)
Disc Machining (Provided you use ones from frontcut and they are rusty, and you aren't just gunna use a pair of pads Razz)
Brake Pads for said Upgraded Calipers
Brake Fluid
Other oils, fluids, filters

New Diff when you're having too much fun with the 6banga (as somebody calls it Razz)

I may be wrong, and I'm sure people who have done this will be able to give you a better picture but it is most likely going to be a unanimous more expensive than I budgeted for.

GOOD LUCK, I hope to do the same or 2JZ/1UZ conversion someday!

Good luck
im sure the half cut you need is the chaser JZX81 like mine because of the sump positioning you basically chop the engine mounts off the cut and weld them on to your crossmember (removing the old ones of course Razz ) give the loom to sixworks to sort out for you and i think the auto on the chaser cut fits into you convertion too.......

disclaimer:
i don't know shit, please make sure my info is corret before you take it!!! i'm just remembering off one of the other guys convertions, i might even have the modles mixed up Razz

all the fluids go in "consumables"
and i figure the $1000 allowed for extras can get me timing belts, etc
wont the stock intercooler piping be good enough?
and from what I hear, I wont need to upgrade my calipers .. just make sure the pads are in good nick (especially if I go to max's engineer)

I'm trying to keep the initial conversion costs to a minimum, and just get the thing up and running
after that I can worry about the 2463783 mods I have planned Razz
