I am considering doing up my pretty much original cond. Corolla.
At the moment it is a 2 speed auto, 2 door 1974 Corolla..
Does any one out there recommend getting a mechanic to do it up?
Any ideas???
cheers

absolutely not!
a KE30 is an ideal project car to learn how to build engines and modify things properly, and there a quite a few 'bolt-on' mods that you can do. it will probably not be the fastest car on the block, but you will learn a lot more from building a few engines for it then by buying a later model car and immediately doing a transplant.
frinstance, you could start by changing to a manual box, which isn't too difficult to do. then add things like extractors, exhaust, porting, then maybe cam change....
heaps of things to tinker with and not easy to break... and if you do, parts are dime a dozen

thanks Stewart....yep I was thinking about giving up....I used to love tinkering with my dad's old XC falcon..helping out mainly..problem is space, no garage, only a very small back yard..the idea to start with the gearbox is great and I will probably look into it!! your words are quite motivational..

Ive got a KE30 GB 4 speed if you want that very cheap.,...(in penrith)
I also got a ke30 which im currently building and we found out that the TA22 front struts bolt straight in but a lil fidding with the steering needs to be done..
The TA22 has bigger discs then the KE30 so there just a suggestion...
Thanx,
