Melbourne F1 Thu, 06 March 2003 06:13 Go to next message
G'day everyone

I was wondering if anyone from here was going to wander over to the Melbourne Formula One GP this weekend?

I am 99% sure i'm going to go. Will be only for the Saturday though. Apparently there is a show & shine there too. Wonder what kinds of cars are going to be there?

I've never seen an F1 car before so i'm sure i'll be in for a shock to hear the noise of them. I've been to the Indy a few times when I lived up there and they blew me away.

I was wondering if the $80 general tickets are worth it? Thats all I got at the Indy and they were all you needed because you got nice and close to the action and at most of the circut. The Albert Park track looks asthough the people are a long way from the track...can you see if your a "walk around" person?

See you there

Do you mean anyone from Lisomre, or anyone from toymods?

Coz I'm going! Leaving tomorrow morning to be there for Sat as well...however I'm a lucky bastard who is going to be in the Chicane Skybox (corporate hospitality and a fucking great view) thanks to my work/job. I went last year and it was excellent, the Saturday has lots of practice/qualifying and good support races. I had a bit of a walk around last year and if you were general admission there were a few places to go.

Hell, someone has to be there to support the Toyotas! And if you go on Saturday you don't have to be there when they retire 5 laps in during the race!!

I meant anyone from Toymods. I have moved from Lismore but don't know how to change my details. I live in a place called Moulamein now near Swan Hill as a primary school teacher.

I am going to be so tired getting there. I'm still up doing work for the principal for tomorrow and will be up for a few more hours. Then up at 6 and work till 3...drive to Melbourne via my parents place (200k's extra) and then get up bright and early ready for the GP. I reckon it will take me about 19 hours to find the track...i'm not a city person. I will get lost for sure. ha ha ha Laughing

I rang dad up tonight and he said that if I told him a few days ago I was going he could have gotten me corperate boxes on the straight with free beer and food all day. Through Elders. That would have been great but he knocked back the ticket cause he couldn't go. Mad

I'll be there with Toyota in my mind! Go the mighty 1JZ....thats what they have in F1 cars don't they?? If they don't they should Razz

See you all there

In todays daily telegraph, pg 120-122 it has an F1 special.

It says that the Panasonic sponsored Toyota is running a Ford (Cosworth) V10. I know alot of teams run engines bought from other manufacturers but its a bit strange when the Minardi team is running an actual Toyota V10.

Unless its a massive typo, which the telegraph is typical for the Toyota is running a Ford engine and the Non-toyota/minardi team is running a Toyota engine.

Wouldn't you run your own engine??????? Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

me thinks typo

there is no way toyota are running a cosworth engine, the toyota team is going by the philosophy of designing and building as much as they can 'in-house', same with their production cars.

there is a history of toyota novel that i found at my local library one boring uni holiday break, its not a bad read actually.

What a great day....a little cold though. I still can't believe the speed of the cars. They are so damn fast...especially around corners.

After going to the Indy a few times I have to say I miss having the flirt models walking around although the quality of the ladies in Melbourne is MUCH higher...even though they are all hanging off their boyfriends.

I couldn't believe though that on the Saturday almost everyone went straight after the F1 cars! Hardly could stand up from the people walking out of the track. it was so quiet after the qualifying. To all the people that left then you missed out! The races after that were the best of the day. Was really good to see Brockie win. Why spend $80 for something and not stick around all day?

Best car of the would have to be the Soarer though that was sponsered by SEXPO and CLUB X. That was high quality. Especially driving around the track with a few "ady workers". High class Cool
