It depends on the pump being used and the outlets from the fuel tank.. but mine i have :
bottom hose is 12mm
the rest are all 8mm
but if the tank and return lines are only 6.5mm, then make the pipes in the tank the same.

When it comes time to build the surge tank, please take a little longer to do it properly. The vast majority of the aftermarket ones I've seen are just rubbish. This is how to shape it properly -

('Scuse the crude pic)
#1 pipe is the low pressure feed into the swirl pot. #2 pipe is the feed to the high pressure pump to the fuel rail. #3 pipe is the return from the fuel rail. #4 pipe is the return to the fuel tank.
If you look at the path of the fuel, you can see that the hot & cold fuel will not be mixed up by turbulent flow, and that all the air in the pot will be removed, so there's almost zero chance of surge.

thanks, most people would not have bothered to draw me, i'm very grateful. I'll definitly follow that for my tank. I'll have to try and catch the guy making it before he goes home. Thanks again for the info - most helpful.

Ah! You got lucky, I drew that for another thread on another forum a couple of weeks ago, and so was able to dig it up easily. There was a link to a MUCH better picture of one, but it's gone now unfortunately ...
Anyway, glad it makes sense that you can see how the air & fuel swirl around and don't get mixed up the wrong way. Little things like this make the difference.
