ISO: Comprehensive list of Mk I,II, & III Celicas released in Australia Fri, 07 March 2003 01:06 Go to next message
Hi there, I am looking at buying an older model RWD Celica - presently I am in the "research" stage. I have found quite alot of useful information on the Toymods site (well done!) however what I am really after is a list of models released in Australia, their engines & the specifications of those engines.

If anyone can point me in the right direction I would really appreciate it.

TIA.

Rob.

heres the short list

car - engine
TA22 - 2T
TA23 - 2T
RA23 - 18R-C
RA28 - 18R-C
RA40a - 18R-C
RA40b - 18R-C
RA60 - 21R-C
RA65 - 22R-E

there isnt really a naming scheme like Mk1, Mk2 for the celicas, only the supras are referred to as the Mk1, Mk2, Mk3 and Mk4

hope this helps

In between the RA60 and RA65 was the SA63 with the 2S-C engine.

The specifications for the engines are HERE

but you want to avoid the SA63 ... RA65 is a much better choice

of course, I might be slightly biased, having owned one Smile

you might also want to consider a mk1 or mk2 supra... very nice cars as well

Why would you want to avoid an SA63? Say perhaps he wanted to do a 3S conversion on it? I know which one I'd rather be starting with! Very Happy

but, as far as I can tell, the 3s-gte conversion is a pain no matter what rwd setup you start with

Yeah, but at least you've got the mounts and bellhousing to start with Smile

Thankyou - that's the sort of information that I was after Cool

And now I reveal the reason that I am looking at getting a Celica.... I have joined an autosports club in Sydney & want to get a car for use in Motokhana, Khanacross, and when I get a bit more experience - Rally.

I know a Celica will probbly cost me a little more than an open VW buggy, but I'd rather get a vehicle that'll be useful for more than just Motokhana & Khanacross.

Anyone else on these boards doing that sort of thing with a Celica?

Oh and I almost forgot - where the engines in the 60 series models designed for leaded or unleaded fuel? (I can't remeber when unleaded fuel regulations came in)

Any Celica will run fine on unleaded fuel, although some engines may be happier with premium unleaded due to octane requirements. Unleaded was introduced in this country in 1986, but for most of the developed world (including Japan) it happened in the mid 70's.
