A $3k Paintjob

Fellas ... as I've mentioned to others before, here is what $3,000 got me in terms of a paintjob from DMD Image (www.dmdtheimage.com) up here in Rocklea, Brisbane.
Not quite show car standards (the car is meant to be driven) but I'm quite stoked by the results - she looks a lot better in real. Other places quoted avg $4,500 so I reckon I got me monies worth - no hassles removing stuff (they did it all), all rust removed, shaved antenna, fast painting time (less than 1 month for the amount of labour involved) & gorgeous 2 pac paint.
I was a skeptic at first but now heavily recommend & commend them for their services!
Enjoy! :
Give us a wave the next time you see the Panda cruisin' your neighbourhood!

I thought the first picture was the finished product at first.
Must be just me, I thought it looked better as gold/bronze.
But the end result is good. Very bright and shiney.

Ha hah ... yes, it'd have cost more to have done the engine bay as well but I'll leave that for when the 4AGE engine comes out & the new one comes along ... eventually. I'd like a contrasting colour so perhaps something purple?
Beauty is only skin deep & whilst I enjoy looking at showcars, my sprinter's not one for that sort of thing - otherwise it'd become a trailer queen & I'd be polishing her everytime we went for a drive.
Also, it sort of defeats my original purpose - to put the money where it is of most value - Can't really justify paying more than what I got the car for. I don't really place much value in paintwork as long as it no longer makes the car an eye sore.
There is also a lot more to doing a panda paintjob & I reckon DMD were great in that they managed to capture it all whilst attending to the finer details.
Still, I just can't believe that I actually told DMD in the first place that it didn't matter & I just wanted the outside done, not even the insides of the boot or doors.
But she looks brand new now ... next fitting Mr Streeter's front & rear spoiler, the Autotecnica seats & then the suspension - me thinks a whiteline kit is in order!

Yeeeeeaaaahhhhhh DODGY!!!!
What I tell you man??????
You should never doubt when I say something!!!
I told you it would come up looking a TREAT!! Your right it will never win a best paint award.... at a show, but it makes the car look nice and it is appropriate for a daily driven car!!
I told you that when you saw my paint job!! And that's why I spent only $3000 on my pain too! Any more is just a waste of money on a Sprinter!
By the way .. did you get new number plates?? what they say??
Looking forward to see it in the flesh!

The car looks so much better in person ... went with Panda scheme as it's like not painting a Ferrari red if I didn't.
That's a Levin air slot grill but I have a clear perspex one on my shelf as well. Am sort of deciding whether to fit it but to do so will mean I will have to remove the air slot brackets & radiator hoses. Hmmmmm ...

I think it is that most people that see a Panda sprinter think that the person has painted the car like that and is trying to make the car look like the one in Initial D when in fact they actually came out of the factory with that colour scheme in japan!

Hey Haro,
Now for that turbo kit for the 4age! Pitty you're not in Sydney as it would be a real head turner to have both a Panda Levin & Panda Trueno side by side.

Thanks for the replies ppl ... just thought I'd show you what $3k gets you these days. The gold wasn't so bad but the car was in a dire need of a makeover after 20 years.
Hachi Roku Trueno ... is that your car in your avatar? If so, looks sweet! Post some pics dude ... forget the Initial D hype ... the car looks a beaut. Yeah ... pity you're in Sydney but I already know of a couple of Sprinters being done up here ... can't wait till we all go for a cruise someday.
ae86drift ... I can help if you ever need a reference when it comes to a Panda paint scheme. Can post some larger pics when I get around to it.
Speedie ... be in touch with you very soon!
Cheers all!

Heh heh ... I guess I collect them as they come up. Your best bet is to check out Ebay. You never know what comes up from week to week.
Unfortunately, the car is lacking in both LSD and suspension work in the performance department. No hurries though but if an LSD ever becomes available, you'd bet I'll be there in the competition.
I already have an open rear disc diff so I just need to find out whether it is the later 86-87 model or earlier one. Even then, I'd be limited to a Cusco one as both TRD and KAAZ ones aren't made anymore.
People have to realise that AE86 parts are getting harder to find these days so you'd best be prepared to fork out the $$$ for what you want ...
