Octane booster, apparently very caustic.

Octane boosters CAN foul plugs - depends what you use and what plugs - e.g. lots of lead is death to platinum plugs.
Toluene is slightly harsh stuff, and makes up about 50% of acrylic thinners, but at about 10:1 shouldn't do any harm to anything from what I gather (ignore the RACV carrying on about it rotting fuel lines - I think that may well be garbage!)

Toluene mix in the fuel needs to be between 20 and 30 % to give an effective octane boost.
It has been shown to be slightly better than the average octane boosters at these concentrations.
We have found a certain fuel catalyst to be a better option, though there are a few cheap detonation inhibitors that can be used, you'd be suprised what they are.
You could always try sniffing my exhaust !!

toluene.. i love this stuff, from what i believe it is what they add to normal unleaded to make premium unleaded, toluene contains no lead so is good for efi, in my car i would run 15-20% mix and it stopped my pinging(4agz bigger pulley cams etc..)thus it obviously worked, i did try all types of octane boosters but in the end found toluene to be the cheapest for a tank of fuel, ok so you have to pour it in in litres at a time but dont most of us have sacrifices we've made due to our cars?, after over a year my fuel lines are not stuffed so this is either yet to happen or its just here-say crap. octane is suppoedly 114 thus with simple maths, when using 98octane premium with 20% toluene new fuel octane should be...101.2 thats a boost of 31.2 points, most cheap octane boosters only raise octane by 10points, so yeah i use it and swear by it, but i'll let you be the judge.

I can't say anything about exact figures, but I wouldn't bother boosting octane rating unless you have a pinging problem (which is more likely to be engine cooling or air/fuel mixture cooling related) *or* if you are increasing boost if you have a turbo/super charged engine, or you are planning to raise the compression ratio in your engine. You will get maybe 2 horse power at the top end of your average stock engine from just boosting your fuel octance rating, in an internally modified or boosted engine, then it's a different matter.

20% max mix before you go disintegrating your fuel lines (long term use)
its also a carcinogen, so use outside, use a mask and gloves
