*covers himself in fire retardant and grabs a chemical extinguisher*
dont miss the guy personally ... except he had really really freaky fingers from too many crashes.
it scares the shit outta me that 12 months after being diagnosed with cancer, at that age, he's dead.
anyone know what sort of cancer?

holly fuck, man's that sad. The ten commentators did say something about him being pretty sick on saturday or sunday on the F-1 boardcast. The only thing i didn't like about him was that he payed out Tamborine Mountain in wheels mag. but he was a cool guy and was really good on the channel ten motor sport shows.

that would be a really, really horrible way to die.
stomach cancer is apprently incredibly painful
if that happened to me, I'd book myself a track, and make dam sure I didn't leave it again

Yes, a sad day indeed.
I was wondering where he was during the F1. Now I know.
I'll miss his enthusiasm and humour.

He actually had an oesophageal carcinoma. The oesophagus is the food pipe that connects the mouth to the stomach. The fact that he had 'throat and stomach cancer' suggests that his tumour involved the bottom end of his food pipe just near where it connects to the stomach. Another possibilty is that with moderately advanced disease, the tumour can spread to the lymph nodes in the neck (the 'glands' that become sore when you have a sore throat).
This type of tumour is rapidly lethal. Cure can really only be expected if one undergoes an oesophagectomy (surgical removal of this tube), and, in most instances, this procedure is really only palliative.
Funny guy....too young.

I dont know what the average age of everyone here is but for me everyone I grew up watching is starting to die. Its a little scary since Barry was 52. I'm 30 and have beaten it twice already.
