Ive been told they bolt straight on (ae101 brakes onto ae82) but you need a 15inch wheel or bigger. is this true? cause the standard brakes on the ae82 suck...

yes, mostly they do bolt stright on the front.
You will have to modify the stone guard as it will interfeer with the larger disk. Best to just cut it off. You can unbolt it, but it requires pressing the hub out of the hub carrier.

Also, you only need 14" wheels.

Enjoy!

Craig.

Are you talking about superstrut or standard 101? I don't think superstrut brakes fit under a 14 inch wheel.

im not sure, its an ae101 front cut, both front calipers and rotors for $50, but i have 17 inch wheels anyway.

will i have to modify anything to put them on? or is it bolt in?

The ae101 superstrut rotors and calipers will fit the ae82 with some mods. The 14" OEM wheels will not fit over these.
However, ive seen aftermarket 14" mags fit on them.
But it may of used a different offset and wheel spacers.

If you have a machine to machine the diameter of a rotors down a little bit (assuming that you are using the GTZ AE101 brakes) then you can do it yourself, it all bolts up... If if it aussie spec 101 brakes you should have no problems, I am running aussie 111 brakes on mine at the moment (under 14's)

When doing a mates GZE conversion from an AE101 into His AE82 we found that we had to cut the stone guard. The rotors all went fine, but we didnt end up getting the twin piston calipers on as they wouldnt quite fit..... we would have needed do a bit more to it, so we shelved the idea till later.

I would be interested to see also what needs to be done to bolt on the twin piston calipers to an AE82 so we dont have to stuff around as much when we bother.....

all that needs to be done to get the caliper on is to machine the disc a little... then maybe a spacer to center the disc up, not much to it really

As for noticable difference, normal braking is the same but when you really need the power its definately there, saved me a few times, I would assume the twin pots would be even better yet... the pads on the twin pot are the same as MR2 Turbo pads so maybe the calipers are the same or at least comparable??

Also take in to account that a an AE82 weighs about 1000kg (not including driver), an ae101 gtz would be what? 1200 or something, so you're already at an advantage before you start..

Mine were the single piston caliper AE92 GTZ setup. The super strut ones are better, but do need work (as mentioned above) to fit. Mine fit under standard corolla 14's. I belive these are the same disks and calipers fron the aussie AE101. (correct me if im worng!!)

Either way, the stone guard needs cutting off. As i mentioned, you can un bolt it and bolt the larger on on, but you need to press the hub out of the spider, and press it back in. I've never had a problem with stones getting caught any way (and i do a few thousand km of dirt driving in a year!)

If you are in any way unsure about what to do, get a professional, or some one who does know to do it. Brakes are one of the most important things on your car! A torque wrenche is your best friend.

Can't quite remember, I bought them off fergo308, who used to frequent these forums, I think I paid about 100 bucks for the calipers and pistons..
