Squeaky Belt/Pulley Tue, 11 March 2003 05:57 Go to next message
Having a few issues with a Squeaky belt or pulley. I have tightened the belt and it all seems to be in good state of repair, but the squeak just keeps coming back. A bit of silicon spray stops it for a while, but it is always back the next day.

It was an any RPM thing, now having tightened it it is only under 1500RPM and idle.

Would it be a pulley bearing, and if so what is the best way to determine which pulley it is?

Anything else it might be belt/pulley related?

This is on my 100kw 4AGE.

Thanks

couple of things you can do. Depends on how much the squeak is pissin you off.

Buy a new belt. What are they, 30 bucks?

have you actually pulled the belt off and checked it that way? turn it inside out and look for cracks. if it's got em, you'll see em no worries.

A belt can look good when it's still installed...

If a bearing has gone in one of the pulleys, the noise will most generally be a rumble. you can find out by starting the car and ****CAREFULLY*** put a long screwdriver on the locking nut in the middle of the pully (Make sure you don't put the driver on anything SPINNING!!. Then put your ear to the end of the screwdriver. Again, if there's a rumble, you will find it no probs. It's not something you have to look for...

If a belt gives trouble, replace it. It's not worth the hassle scrimping with belts, on ANYONES budget....

I'd have to back EVOSTI up completely. Dri lube is tops...

But do you want a snapped belt that don't squeak? or a new belt that is reliable, and still don't squeak?

I know that is a little extreme, but it's up to you what you do.... I know what I'd choose...

Does anyone know the Part Number for a Belt for the 100kw 4AGE?
Is it any different than the 86kw belt?

If a new belt doesnt stop it, I'll check the pulleys as described.
