Air Con & Heater Problems Tue, 11 March 2003 11:09 Go to next message
Heya guys,

This has been a problem for a long time, but I've finally decieded to do something about it. Just an outline of my current all powerful cruiser. Toyota Camry Station Wagon '87 or SV-01

Basically the aircon and heating works, but only on its highest setting, on the lower 2 settings there is no air getting blown through at all. I read on another one of the posts here that its a resitor that controls that, I reckon that this could be shorted or damaged in some way. So....and I'm hoping that someone can tell me what sort of resistor or switch or fuse I need to replace, and where abouts in the front panel of the car its located?

I figured while I had the whole front dash off, the lights behind the aircon/heating are gone aswell, could this be related? Also where shoulda I look to find the faults of this problem, is it a globe or fibre going to panels?

I have the wiring diagrams thankfully, but not sure where abouts in the front dash to find all this stuff, I heard the resister for the aircon was in the glove box? Is that true?

Anyway thanks for you help guys.

Alch

usually the dropping resistors for the fan speed control are located in the heater box. Basically there are 2 resistors - they are a wirewound, ceramic coated type.
Usually you can remove them via one screw into the heater box which removes a small panel to which a plug plugs into, and on the other side is the resistors.
Test with a multimeter to see if either gives a value for resistance.
Then jump down to Jaycar, grab a whole bunch of 10W wirewound resistors and have a play - see what value suits you best!

Thanks mate, remember I work at Dickies so I can get my resistors from there, thinking tho I think we only got 5W, so I might have to resort to jaycar Laughing Just a quick question, where abouts in the front dash is the heaterbox?
