I was interested in that one as well but i reckon it'll just be too expensive. For $55 i'd prefer the Bosch one anyway as a quick fix.
Read the SOGI site, it tells you how to check if you have boost leak by blowing through one of the pipes... it shouldn't let any air through at all

The Porsche one is still a Bosch one too, possibly you can still get them the same way you did.

The porsche one is over $100 compared to $59 I paid for the Saab.
Also the Porsche one as you call it was not available when I ordered mine.Bosch was out of stock or something.

Dan - is the autobarn one the bosch one from the SAAB or just an average plumback BOV ? did u just quote the serial number or something?
helmann - without taking the BOV off, i think you can tell by listening for a flutter when you back off the throttle on boost, but from what it sounds like the stock BOV's don't last long so its a good idea to replace anyway, otherwise, it aint that hard to take off, just take off the three pipes and clamps holding it in place and try and blow through it.
marty - did u go through SAAB dealership or what?

I just rang up the local autobarn, told them i was after a Saab BOV off a 1996 9000 turbo and quoted the part number. At first he was hesitant until I asked him to try the part number. It is a Bosche one which I believe is exactly the same as what they used on the Saabs anyway. He said they are fairly commonly used on allot of cars. They didn;t even have a listing on the Porsche one.

Thisis a common mod in the UK. The Porsche, Saab, and Bosch BOV are all the same unit. They're all made by Bosch and are exactly the same.
It doesnt increase the performance, it just replaces the stock toyota BOV which is known to fail occasionally. The bosch/saab unit takes a bit more boost reliably thats all...

I have bought one of these Bosch BOV from Repco in the past. Just quote the part number.
They say they won't warrant it on anything apart from what it was factory fitted to though (eg Saab)

Autobarn charged me like $45 for it.. I just said "I want a bosh plastic blow off valve" and got the right part. Then got a bit of radiator hose with a similar diameter, cut it up and it all fitted nicely.
Generally you can tell with a 7MGTE BOV if it's leaking... if you lift off the throttle sharply and you hear a shudder "ch ch ch ch" rather than a single "fooch" then your valve is probably leaking and you can hear the compressor surging. I recommend replacing it if it is making this sound - can foul your plugs, lose you hp, wreck your turbo (debatable), make the car stall... lots of things. Fix it while it's only slightly broken

My car currently makes that "ch ch ch ch" sound quite loudly (i have a K&N filter on there so i can hear it much easier)
what kind of effect would that be having on my car? Its done it ever since i bought it about a year ago - i just thought it was normal

I mentioned a few symptoms above, any of these oculd be the case. Or none. Depends on how bad it is. But I can guarantee one thing - it's not doing any GOOD.

Appreciate the advice guys, installed my brand spanker SAAB BOV lastnight and it worked a treat. I was able to blow air straight the the pipes on my stock BOV (NOT GOOD!)
after the new one went in i noticed my turbo was much quieter and boost seemed to come on much more strongly and a bit quicker than it used to... i laugh every time i hear the little owl "hoot" the SAAB one makes when it hits vacuum
Thanks again!

I think the twins will no longer be twins at 15psi!
Unless of course you have evidence
I am looking at around 200kw at wheels!

15psi is a level of boost you can run daily on the stock twins on a 1g. wouldnt run anymore. but wont you be looking for more than 15psi for 200rwKW. stock twins at 1bar give you 150-160rwKW..

hopefully, with the right turbo and minimal internal work, i should be ok for 15psi at 200rwkw.
So any ideas on the bosch bov bugman?

It'll be interesting to see how the Blitz turbos hold up to boost. Theoretically, if the stock 1G CT12's can hold up to 15psi, hopefully they should be able to do it without breaking a real sweat.
Especially with the nice intercooler I bought the other day
So yeah, does anyone know how much boost the Saab BOV holds? I'm keen to jimmy one up on the 1GGTE when its running, a LOT cheaper than the GFB one I was eyeing off.
