Mag repairs??? Wed, 12 March 2003 03:27 Go to next message
OK peoples, I have a set of ROH milano 3 piece mags, 16X7, and one mag is stuffed. I just need the outer rim replaced, but to do this ROH have quoted me $200 plus to replace it, and a time of minimum 4 weeks!!! A new mag would cost me $434, and they are custom made to suit the car and would take at least 6 weeks to get to me. The question i ask is, is there anyone very good and fairly cheap that could repair my mag via re-rolling it and poilishing it back to as good as new??? In the brissy area??? And could do it in less than 3 weeks?

For a pic of the mag go here:

Thanks
Ben

You can get them repaired, look in the phone book.

A lot of people don't like the idea of repairing rims. Apparently "they will break" but I have heard plenty of people that know this fact but have never heard of one breaking.

I think the ROH rims are made from 6061 aluminium which is weldable. Unfortunately I don't know if they are tempered. If they are, welding will locally anneal the material and soften it. When you look into it, ask them if they heat treat after welding, I will be interested to know.

There is a fair amount of damage to your wheel, I would look further into replacing the outer rim. I am sure a wheel restorer could replace it in less time than going through ROH.

Best of luck, let us know how it turns out.

just called Depulu, the verdict is, the rim can't be fixed, and they cannot get a band sent to them that will fit. It must be transported to SA and get fixed by ROH themselves. This will take 6-8 weeks and cost at least $240!!!! Well there goes any ideas about selling my car soon. Sad

thanks

Try Billeau Eng for a comparison as they are only 5 mins away from depulu. He fixes rims that are a mess. May as well whilst your in the coast.

yeah i asked the guy at depulu if he could find anywhere else to fix it, and he basically said the outer rim is beyond repair and i need to get a new piece. apparently ROH make very unique sizes and simmons or any other parts wont fit and ROH wont send parts to anyone else, they state that they must do the repairs themselves at SA. So thanks anyway, but it looks like im in for the long wait. Even if i wanted to buy a new one for $450, it'd take 6 weeks to get it custom made.
Sad

thanks anyway peoples.
Cheers
