what causes backfiring when boosting?
Sat, 15 June 2002 09:52
My motor (Toyota 3TGTE) runs fine on up to 15psi, but with 17psi or so, it backfires out the exhaust at about 6000rpm.
I'm running haltech E6K, and its not lean according to the datalog.
what could it possibly be?? too rich? too much/little timing?
weak valve springs?
any advice appreciated.
Phil

Backfiring or misfiring ?
When I did my exhaust, boost increased a few PSI and the spark plugs couldn't handle it. Had to get some new ones cos the others were too old (100,000km!) and misfired above 10psi.
