HEY all, i was just wondering what coil i should use in my 18rgeu conversion..?? im using the 18rgeu ecu, ignitor and electric dizzy.. and repco couldnt find a Bosch coil to suit this motor or the 22R-E. My mate thinks the standard bosch electric coils should be okay, but the guy at the store wasnt so positive.. he said i should talk to toyota rally clubs or something similar? so i rang SleekaSpares and they have an old one but it mite not function..
SO, what i was wondering was if anybody knows who would stock a new aftermarket coil for use with this motor (18rgeu)??? cos the guy at the store reckoned it would just run like shit and foul up plugs heaps quick if i used the Bosch aftermarket universal type.. Im not so sure, but id rather have the engine running at its best and if this old coil is farked then ill need a new one!
What will run the motor best?
Any advice or help would be most appreciated, as i need to get the car up and running soon, im getting sick of walking everywhere!!
Cheers,
Guy

Well I am in the same boat. I have an electronic dizzy on my 18rgeu, but I don't have anything else attached to it. What do I need. I know a coil(electric) but do I need an ignitor. what are they and what do they look like??

Yes you need coil and an ignitor. The one in my wiring loom looked like a small rectangular little PC board with a few pinouts i think, inside a little plastic cover. maybe 3 cm x 6cm x 1 cm ??? Sleeka spares wanted bout ~$130 for a 2nd hand coil and ignitor setup for a 18rgeu, im not sure if this is a good price but this is around what the 22R-E coil&Ignitor go for around here i think ...
you'll need an ecu: 22re, 2Se, 2Tgeu, or if u can get one 18rgeu. Ive heard of maybe the delco(gm camira, VL) type systems being used on these old toyota and similar engines with good results, maybe u could research this further
uve got the AFM so thats one thing u dont need to worry about at least...
hmm,
anyone know of what Coil could be best to use without major hassles?? magna? newer model celica? 22RE?
CHEERS,
guy

Coils are really simple items.
Really any standard coil can be used as long as you know what the pins on the coil are.
Use the same ignitor that was used on that coil in the car it came from... 90% of ignitors work the same way so as long as you hook it up right, it should work ok.

Just go to the wreckers and grab a coil/ignitor assembly from any Toyota with an electronic ignitor. I got one off a 22R-E Corona from memory.
