what to do to the solexe's??
Wed, 12 March 2003 11:16
well a week and a half after getting my 18rgu perfectly tuned on a dyno, it's already starting to drink petrol, and i was just wondering what the best thing to do would be to fix it once and for all
i know rebuild kits are rare as, so just wondering about how much it would cost to replace the carbs, and if there is anything (besides a celica) that i could steal some twin carbs from.... or anything else i could do for that matter??
This is how it is with Solex's... that's why I got rid of mine ages ago! Your options are to replace them with new carbs (I'd go for Webers) or convert to EFI. I wouldn't take the risk of buying second-hand carbs; chances are they'll be just as bad as what you already have, if not worse.
If it was me I'd convert to EFI. Believe it or not, this is significantly cheaper than buying a pair of new Webers! Needless to say, fuel economy will be heaps better as well.
you can get your solexs rebuilt and tuned... but i'm with norbie, the solexs are bitches, webers make it much easier to tune, and you will see a huge improvement in feul economy maybe even power (over out-of-tune solex's that is ).
