5me running rich?

Howdy, as some of you might know I have just put a 5ME into my 73 Corona.
Wired it all up yesturday and got it running, in the driveway seems fine but took it out on the road today and under any kind of load it seems very rich, lots of black smoke and surges around like nothing else. Under full throttle when the revs pick up seems to clean itself up and goes alright.
Took the plugs out and are black..
So after some ideas? I wired it up myself, which i've done a few Toyota wire ups in the past and been alright.
The AFM wiring was part of the body loom in the Crown (doner car), so I have to cut this and re-join the wires, which I have double and tripple checked to make sure they are all around the correct way.
Also the IG wire from the coil to the ecu was part of the body loom, in my wiring diagram it showed as being shielded but in actual fact in the Crown it wasn't sheilded.
Nothing else was touched, engine was running fine in the Crown before it came out. Didn't undo TPS, or adjust dizzy in anyway so nothing should be different there.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Joel

my 5me supras used to run a bit rich too...If u didnt start it for say 3 days, a healthy amount of black smoke comes out of the exhaust...did u change the plugs and then try again? Perhaps clogged up efi or something as well...most probably in the efi system man...check manifolds/ vaccumns etc etc...thats where youre problem is i think...

Check that your cold start injector is turning off....maybe if something silly has happened with the wiring from the cold start injector time switch it might be staying on all the time.
I suppose the other thing might be that the engine temp sensor wiring is up the putt, and it may be that the ECU is seeing a cold engine at all times.
I'd check those again.
If all that checks out OK, then a last resort would be to tune it thru the AFM. However, given that it was running just fine in the Crown, my suspicion is that there is something up with the wiring. I don't doubt that you have checked the wiring a gazillion times, but I think there is something there that is just not right.
