Restoring Side Window Rims & Clips on an AE86 Sprinter

Not that I have the money to get my AE86 Sprinter into showroom condition but I was wondering if anyone has any idea how to improve / restore the rims & clips around the side window glasses (both front & rear).
I initially thought they were rubbers holding the window to the body but on closer examination, they're actually long plastic strips that have been coated in some kind of thin plastic / rubber silicon to bond them all together.
Mine have deteoriated to a point where the exterior has worn off leaving the inner plastic strip exposed & some of the clips loose.
Is it a simple matter of sanding off the excess & repainting the strips & clips again? Or is there a special process to this?
Any comments would help. Thanks all for your time!
P.S. Perhap Hadyn (Aka Mr 20V) may have an idea? The surroundings on the windows on his car looked brand new.

does anyone know if you can buy the front windscreen trims ie(top of windscreen and the two side ones) brand new from toyota??? I really need to replace these.
Also with regards to the rear quarter window trims..... I have been able to get both left and right in perfect condition from a wrecker (just needs a few coats of paint) but the clips on my car that the trims "snap" onto have broken, are these available from toyota also???? if so.....ARM and a LEG???

I can only be half helpful in this area I'm afraid.
the rear quarter window, and windscreen trims are made of stainless steel, painted black.
you can just sand them back, and repaint,or polish them up if you were so inclined-they'd come up like chrome if you put in enough effort.
as for the clips that hold them on(the windscreen trims are held on with stainless screws),I have no idea if they can be bought,I've yet to look into it. I would imagine they can be.

Yes the moulding are stainless, but they are actually rubber coated with a flap moulded into them to seal against the body of the car so stripping them and painting them will leave a gap around the edge, I tried it and I didn't think it looked so great. All moulds and clips are available from Toyota ex-Japan but be prepared to have empty pockets.
