How to tell a W50??? Fri, 14 March 2003 12:42 Go to next message
Lads and Lasses,

A real simple one...

Be there are any markings/features that identify a W50 steel case celica box?

Rex

Nothing specific like a huge red "W50" on the side of the box.

The body of the box will be black and made of cast iron. Use a magnet to discern this feature. The only other box you might confuse it with ia a W40. The main difference will be a subtle difference in the alloy extension housing behind the main body. The W40 rapidly slopes up to output spline where the tailshaft fits on to, whilst the W50 extension housing is much more bulky.
The W5x boxes all have alloy bodies.

Correct me if I'm wrong but are W4x's not the 4 speed and W5x's not the 5 speed?

Yep, you're right. And that's the only other one he's likely to confuse it with.
