You undo the bolts and the flywheel comes off... how's that for a tip? Or am I missing something?

I think a rattle gun would be very handy! Or another person with a 1/5inch 17mm socket and flex handle!

ha ha, let the king of the 2t tell you how to do it!!!
get one of the gearbox bolts and bolt it into where it would go, then hold a flat blade skrew driver against the bolt and push it between the teeth on the flywheel and you have got your answer to stop the spinning crank problem.
not a prob gald i could help Very Happy

Re: Removing 2T flywheel Sun, 16 March 2003 00:56 Go to previous messageGo to next message
Couple of ways.
My favorite (and easiest IMHO) is to get a slide hammer with a hook attachment and pull (by bashing) it out.
The 'classic' way is to pack the space behind the spigot bearing with grease. Then fashion a rod that is exactly the same diameter as the inside of the bearing. Poke rod thru inside of bearing and bash with large hammer. The theory is that grease (being non compressible) will push the bearing out. Tried it once and it was a whole lot of fucking around to no avail. Other folk swear by it. I obviously must have done something wrong!

Re: Removing 2T flywheel Mon, 17 March 2003 01:09 Go to previous messageGo to next message
Shane, sounds like you definitely need a slide hammer. If you had eternal patience you could use a Dremel to grind out the casing.
I suggest you HIRE a slide hammer dude Cool. However, a slide hammer is damn handy and a reasonable one will set you back about $150.
Cheers Dave.

PS. A good way to stop the flywheel from turning is to bolt a bit of chain from one of the pressure plate holes to a bellhousing hole. None of this nonsense with big screwdrivers and jamming it into the ring gear (which works but almost always results in skinned knuckles).

To stop the flywheel from turning, I made a jig that slotted through one of the bellhousing bolt holes then bolted to one of pressure plate bolt holes on the flywheel!

Re: Removing 2T flywheel Mon, 17 March 2003 09:32 Go to previous messageGo to next message
the bearing?
I asume you mean the spigot bearing, little small one in the end of the crank that the g'box shaft goes into?
Easy, pick up a spigot bearing remover, attach to bearing, wind remover untill bearing is out, should take you all of 10 seconds.
Oh you don't have a bearing remover?.. it's ok neither do I, I just use the workshop's one. Very Happy
Just go and buy one, I would expect to pay around $40. for a cheap one.
Hope that is of some help.

Ok now I have the old bearing removed, where does the new bearing sit? Does it sit just in the end of the crank or does it get pushed all the down to the back?
Hope that makes sense Confused

Get a socket that is the same diameter as the outer race. Put bearing in hole and gently drive it home with socket and hammer.

If you look at the hole, you will see it tapers at the bottom. The bearing will come to rest here.

Argh....do I have to help you with everything?

Measure the crank hole diameter and the inner diameter of old bearing (or diameter of th bit of input shaft that fits in there. Go to any bearing shop and ask for a spigot bearing with those dimensions. Expect to pay no more than $5.

I could of done that, but I was at work and the engine was at home!
And what made things worse is the fact that every bearing shop I rang gave me a part number for a bearing that doesnt fit!
Doesnt matter now anyway cause I found the correct part number!

thats why you always get the number of the old bearing before you hack it to peices, I do this for any bearing or seal I replace.

Its from a Redhat newsletter! You can email Shadowman and ask questions or whatever! And somebody asked "Is there a URL on the Red Hat Network that I can point IE on a Windows box at to automatically reformat and install Red Hat Linux?"
And Shadowman replied with: Yes, but Shadowman will not tell you, because your Mommy will be very angry if you do that to her computer.

Just something I found funny. Thats all Smile
