G'day Guys!.

I have a 1j in my boat, I have slowly been gettin there with it, sorting it all out, I have had a miss/ slighty breaking down in it at around 5000-6000rpm, at first I wasn't running an alternator, and we thought puttin one on would help, but it still has this slight miss, I needed the alternator anyway, as the volts were too low for the engine to operate at high revs etc etc, I have put a surge tank ( 1litre) and a primer pump, also a bosch motorsport fuel pump, so all seems well on the fuel side of things, new plugs.

When it get to theses rpm, the fuel pressure is good ( over 40 psi, and doesn't drop when the miss happens), boost is around 11psi, temp around 160-190 F ( old speak)

around 6000 = 100mph in this little boat, and even at theses rpm, is preforming better than the 350 chev did, but I would like more, well at least rev to 7000, 7200, Grant knows the set up , He has been a great help with this project, as has this forum, Maybe I'm over looking something simple?, dodgy igniter, coil?? maybe it does rev to 4500-5000 cleanly, no missing or breaking down, when it's on the trailer it will rev to 6000-6500 no problem, with no load, the gearing is ok, it pulls to 5000-5500 easy, suggestions PLEASE!!!

Thanks in advance
Dave

was going to say, sparks are the first thing I would check. My 1jz was missing around 5-6000rpm. Pulled the plugs, they were filthy. replaced them, works fine.

Are your plugs platinum? I remember reading something about platinum plugs and misfiring.....never paid any attention so may be well off the mark.

By the way, have you got that 2JZGE up and running yet?
Cheers Dave.

PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!!!!!!!!

I had an afternoon out on the lake testing the boat( my version of a dyno day), a friend Andrew Linton who as also been a great help with my boat came out to watch it run, to cut a very long story short, the problem was boost spike, the gauge would move that fast and just for a split second, having just a small exhaust system ( in length), and bugger all load on the motor as compared to a car, we also took the fuel-cut off Andrews car and tried it on the boat, He also showed me how boost spike acted in his car( which is a JZA70),it was very helpfull to have his car there to compare notes it was extactly what the boat was doing, so my bad there guys, I did re-gap the plugs can checked them all out, the boat is very happy to rev with no missing now!!

Once again, thank you all for your input!

Regards
Dave

Have you had a Wide-Band 02 sensor and a knock sensor on the boat?? Word from tuners is that boat motors have waaaay different mapping as opposed to cars. This is because of the load that is exerted on the engine.

Just might be a thought to check A/F ratios and ign timing rather than kill a 1J. If the load is causing it to ping you will squeeze more power from the engine with a aftermarket ECU.

Pete, a bit off topic, but in a strange way related, we had our race meeting at the salt lake in my 1JZ powered belly tank. Finally got it running with the Wolf3D. Shit an engine on the dyno at 4200 rpm. It also shit a turbo, but we didn't know till we got back from the meeting. We ran 145Mph, but couldn't get any boost. I know now why it wouldn't boost.
