2T-GEU, 1.6 into 2.0L Sun, 16 June 2002 00:03 Go to next message
Laughing g'day
I have a 2T-GEU and was wondering if i use a 3T crank in order to up the capacity to 1.8L is it possible to also bore out the cylinders and then run custom pistons to increase the capacity even further, almost 2.0L I think without making the walls too thin.
thanks blake

Yep, this has been done to death in the old forums (do a search).
(also some good info in the 2T-G vrs 4A-GE thread/threads in the new forums)

Cheers
Wilbo

I have read up on the hybrid engines in the old forums, thats one of the places i found out info on using the 3t-gte crank, this on its own only takes the capacity out to 1.8L. But it does not appear that anyone has gone on to bore out the cylinders taking it to 2.0L. Most people say that you can bore it out to around 1995cc but the jacket is getting just too thin to feel comfortable enough to thrash around in.And as my aim is to build a streetable club racer this would be no good.i have also done lots of research relating to the pros and cons of the 2tg and the 4age it appears as though the 2tg is a much better base engine (for a ta22), and besides all this i want to keep it as original as possible. Well in appearance anyway! I was just sort of wondering if anyone else has done this and if the walls would be too thin after the bore and sleeve. Or if i should just be content with the 1800cc engine.
thanks blake Laughing

You don't have to use the 3T-GTE crank (although it is better), a normal 3T-C crank (out of a T-1Cool will bring the capacity up to 1.8L and will be cheap as 3T-C are old (you say 1.6 in your post?). One problem is the pistons, they will hit the valves unless machined (more cost). The new pistons will be quite expensive, that much of an overbore is not that common. A 2T-G can be taken to 1940cc without worring according to the other threads.....isn't this close enough to 2000cc??......

If you are willing to spend this amount of money on a motor why not get a 3T-GTE to start with? (It will still bolt in to a TA-22 and you can get heaps of power STOCK, more than you will prbly get out of a good 2T-G, bored and stroked), however I understand you might not want the problems of a turbo (insurance ect).......

Ask rod aka "thetoyman75" he loves his 2T-G's!

hope this helps in some way......

Cheers
Wilbo

thanks Wilbo
that does help a bit, i'm not particularly worried about cost, just so long as the engine won't blow on me i'll be happy. It does sound as though it is safer only boreing it to 1800cc, if it is ok to take it up to 1940cc (keep it extra strong).Like i said before id prefer to keep it original looking, and turbo is a hassle anyway.
thanks again, blake

Well. just going to 3T crank + 40" over 3T pistons you will get ~1850cc, up from 1588cc standard. This is a good safe increase.

Get some 3T pistons, have them flycut so they don't hit the valves and you're away. I can probably source 3T pistons for $100AUS delivered that are sold by Repco. I can't give a warranty on this but can assure you that the box will be unopened.

That's all I would do.
