ra28 windows tipping Sun, 16 March 2003 05:23 Go to next message
Hiya, having a bit of a problem with my windows tipping as you wind them up (I think they tip forward). This makes them really hard to wind and I've stuffed my regulators over time (getting new ones soon). What is it that make them tip? Is it the plastic things that go in the runners or the scissor mechnism the regs use to raise the window? What can I do to fix this, or what do I have to replace? Any info would be much appreciated. Cheers, Chris.

Could be a bit of both...

With my windows most of the reason was the mechanism. Theres a realy thin slide on one end of the sissor, scissor this is prone to bending. You could use a vice and try to straighten it but this might not be possible in bad cases.

Take the door trims off and have a look as you wind the window up and down, give it a shake in and out while its halfway up and look at the tracks at either end of the door, there should be a small nylon bush at the top and bottom of the metal frame that bolts to the glass which stops it from being too loose.

That should give you somewhere to strart with...

Catch ya...

i have recently re done my window mechanisms. there are little plastic runners available from toyota still for like 14 dollars each? something stupid. anyway what i did was get a plastic bread board ( u know those while ones) and i fabricated some new ones. not as hard as i first thought. This should fix your problems
