does the AE85 have a factory tacho? if is does then you can get it to work by getting hold of a mitsubishi 4G63 tacho converter (these engines also run twin coil packs, this converter is about 3x3cm and can be found on the fire wall of vr4 galants) this module has 2 inputs (one for each negative terminal on the coils) and an outpu (to connect to the factory tacho wire) i did this to my car and it works a treat, if AE85 has no tacho get AE86 dash ,shouldn't be too hard. the adaptor cost me $50 from a mitsubishi wrecker. as easy as plug-n-play!!!

Thanks for the great tip - one problem, no one seems to have one. Could you tell me what wrecker you got yours from or a part number?
Thank you
Peter

i can remember the name of the wrecker that i got my adaptor from it was when i lived in adelaide, but as is the story with most wreckers, if you ring them up and they dont know what you are talking about/profit margin too low they will tell you that they dont have one, it actually has tacho-converter written on it, no wiring diagram is required cause the 3 terminals on it are labeled in, in, and out. out goes to the tacho, and in from negative of each coil, if you buy the thing new from mitsubish i'd start enquiring about a bank loan, (also if i un-do my passenger side kick panel i'll never get every thing back in there!) but if you really want the part number i can get it. out of interest where does the red line start on the tacho for an AE85?? (i assume it came with the 3a engine originally?)

I think red starts at 6500 and the 4age at 7500 amber starts at 6000 and 7000 respectively. I will keep trying the wreckers. If I can find one who is wrecking it I will go ther myself.
