Bugger! Did the Dizz have the internal ignitor? Really keen to get one of these so I can ditch the ugly looking piggy back ignitor and all the associated wires ryc.

Keep me in mind if you come across anoth.....good $$$$ paid!

Cheers

How do you know of hte dizzy has an internal ignitor?

If it does have the internal ignitor, can it be by-passed for after-market ecu and wiring/components?

If it does have the internal ignitor, can you run an aftermarket ignitor at all? Soz about all the quest's, but i never knew that had internal ignitors. Any help will be appreciated. Cheers guys

It appears that very few people seem to know about the internal ignitors....mostly the lucky buggers who have them! I have been shot down before by 'people' who dont believe they even exist. Some of the guys in the Canberra Celica Group (CCG) have them and they are a really tidy unit.

Sorry mate but I have no idea how or if it can be bypassed.

Cheers

First thing I look for in the bay is if the ugly piggy back is missing, this is a sure sign that something smarter is being used!

Secondly, clip off the diz cap and see if there is just the standard electronic pick up module that looks like a small black plastic curved unit that runs about a third of the way around the internals of the diz. This is the standard 2TGEU pick up. BUT if it has another module that looks the same but on the oposite side of the diz then thats the internal ignitor!

If anyone has one for sale i'm interested!

Cheers.

Oh shit! I think mine is the one with the internal igniter. I lifted the cap and it has two (at least) units in there and a plug hanging loose for the loom. I bought it from a wrescker over the counter so i don't know whether it had the piggy back unit.

How do these work with after market ECU's? Well i suppose it's better as i don't need the after market ignitor, but i need to make sure that this one is compatible with my ECU. Damn, more head farks!

frank

P.S.
Does anyone know the know how about these ignitors and or heard or done after market wiring/mods/ecu ot them? Cheers...

How does the internal ignitor differ from the external unit (performance/reliablity/looks neat, etc)?

Was this released only on later models or as a extra feacture with sports packs?

Did they run a special ECU?

Re: 2TGEU Dizzy & Alternator Sun, 23 March 2003 23:52 Go to previous messageGo to next message
As far as know (please correct anyone) they only came out on the 2TGEU engines. Maybe the 18RGEU too. They are a simple replacement for the standard electronic 2TGEU diz.
I have not seen an after market ECU with this diz but that does not mean it can't work.

I am only running a high comp 3TGTEU block with 2TGEU head and induction etc with standard ECU so dont know about the options. Most in the CCG with aftermarket ECU lock off the diz and run high performance coil packs for direct fire etc.

Cheers.

Yeh, but the car wont fire without an ignitor though. That's cool, i'll look into it and suss it out. Cheers for your help! It's a wired feeling finding out you have bought something that wasn't what you expected.

Good one Jus.

How about all you guys with the internal ignitor dizz keep an eye out at your local wreckers for me. I am going to be so embarrassed at the Toyota Nationals when I turn up with a bay full if wires off my ugly piggy ignitor! Ah well....at least I am happy with my new bright yellow paint job!(Works in Proress)

Hope to see lots of Celicas at Dubbo.

Cheers
