Oil and spark plugs for MK2 supra Wed, 19 March 2003 11:20 Go to next message
Hey all
checked the oil a couple of days ago and it was a bit dirty so i'm probably going to service it in the next couple of weeks(damn lack of money)

So i ask this question
I have an auto 5m-e sitting in my bitch and want to know what you all would recommend from experience and or expertise in the way of spark plugs and oil type\ammount

I'm *fairly* sure you can just get the k-mart sparks to suit it. it's not exactly a performance engine, so there's not a huge amount of point forking out for platinums or other expensive plugs (especially if your car burns any oil - it'll just foul them again)

oil... depends how well the engine runs. Personal choice is the shell semi-synthetic, 15w50 (cant remember the name of it).
if it chews oil at that thickness, go penrite turbo (although it's called penrite HPR30 now). an excellent quality thick oil

Heh, a 5M-E is something you put up with while you're saving up for an engine conversion. I wouldn't spend any more money than absolutely necessary on one of these. When I had a 5M-E I used any old spark plugs and a cheap but reasonable oil (eg Valvoline multigrade). In an older engine like this the frequency of oil changes is more important than the oil used; change it often and the engine will keep running for ages (or until you replace it with a 1JZ/2JZ/1UZ). Very Happy
