Common Celica Problems: Wed, 19 March 2003 11:40 Go to next message
Hey all,

I have been looking at a few celicas in replacement of my old ass Rolla. However as the ones in my price range are older, Ie late 80's. I understand that they are getting old and wearing out..

What are some of the common problems that I need to be on the look out for?
What do the rest of you think of them?
Should I keep looking for a twinky/SX instead?

oh nooo too many options!

-Shaun.

They're ok if you dont mind FWD cars

I personally went for a 84 supra(just got it on Sunday) because i wanted somthing sexy, tough, not too piss weak in the engine department and RWD.

Whats your budget(that might help people with better ideas\knowledge to help you)

Huumm.. well I am more intrested about knowing the problems with the celicas.. Supra's eh?.. I want something that replacement parts are easy to get.. 3GSE easy enough for parts?

I have only had experience with the 4A family.. so to tell you the truth, I dont have a clue about the celicas. I don even know anyone that owns one.

The ra60 which is a similar shape tot he 84 supra previously mentioned is RWD and has decent power.

It still suffers from rear tailgate rust like the supra and watch out for sunroof operation with them.

RA65 is similar to RA60, only it has IRS, and the better front. Oh, and it has the 22RE and fuel injection (hallelujah!) compared to the RA60's 21R-C.

Hey
i own a 1987 twin cam celica SX
yeh sure its FWD, but its a GOOD FWD, i havnt had many problems at all with it. the only thing was the shocks were a bit dodgy when i bought the car. my engine is the 3S-GE and parts for the car a very easy to find. you can find some real good deals out there on this car, i got mine for just $3500 and can beat 2001 lancers etc off the line.

Kick ass dudes,

yeah I was looking at the 87ish models.. IE: 3GSE...

Well I will keep scanning toymods and the trading post for celicas SX Rollas and sprinters.. I know eventually I will find the one for me, at the right price..

I the mean time, i will keep saving and find out info on all of them, so at least I know a little.

Thanks for all your help guys!
