Can someone confirm that it's a bad rumour?
Have emissions laws killed the SR20DET (and, therefore, the 200SX).
Please say it ain't so!!

so, what do the new emissions standards do to screw the 20v and the sr/rb series?
besides, it's about time nissan came out with another motor (although admittedly, the sr20 and rb26 are amazing engines)

draven, something along the lines of cold start emissions - have to be within a certain level after a set amount of time, the 4age 20v runs way rich on startup which it would fail these emissions.
dunno why they didn't lean it at startup, or, get the CAT hotter quicker?

WTF hey I knew the SR-20 and RB's were on their way out due to emissions about 12 months ago, but does this mean the ceasation of NEW cars being produced with these engines and/or the transplanting of these engines into cars ie. engine conversions with one of these engines here in Australia will not be able to be approved???? Me very very worried now!!!

as per the current regulations on engine emissions..
the engine you put in the car must meet the emissions standards for the year of production of the car. so there will be no problems using them for transplants, as they have already passed emissions (as they were an aus-delivered engine).
the RB26 might be a different matter ... as I'm not sure if GTRs were aus-delivered.
if not, one they're in the car they have to pass an emissions test (which can be challengine with ecu, turbo, exhaust mods)

as I said, dont know
if they did, you could probably sneak a later model rb26 through engineering by saying it was out of an r32

Just like to clear this up slightly, I believe draven is saying year of production of the donor car. So if you put a 1994 20v in your 1983 Sprinter you will have to meet 1994 emissions standards.
Just another little step to add to your project. Unless of course your car is from pre 1971!

Funny you should mention that dude.... apparently Toyota has developed an all new engine and it is supposed to be for use on RWD drive configuration.... it is however N/A and the figures below look like it is a SCREAMER engine.. well that's what I call engines that you have to thrash the SHIZNIT out of to get them moving.
2362cc 210ps@7000rpm and 221Nm@4000rpm
The size of the engine would point to a smallish Celica sized car.. hopefully a coupe and RWD.... could we be seeing the comeback of RWD??? Lets hope so!

Where did you find that Speedcore? Judging by the capacity its probably a version of the 2AZ-FE in the new Camry.

IS2000/Altezza is their "small RWD" chassis. Most likely will go in that car. 220ps is not so good when the 350z makes 280ps.

itsnotagsr: Seriously man the 350Z is a 3.5L V6 is it not????
We are talking about a four pot 2.4L Toyota engine... that by the loks of it will end up in a NEW designed sports coupe, and I think the focus of this car will be on handling rather than outright power... but yeah... BB turbo on the side

since the sr20's will be slowing down in importation volume in a few years every datto 1600 will be getting a conversion before that time.
the skylines are to be getting a 3.5 v6
they will no longer be called a R3X skyline GTR
the next is to be a R35 GTR, thats it.
still make the 206kw but not sure on aspiration

2.4 ? Dont tell me they are bringing back a fully riced 22r!!
that would be fully siiiic
! * joking *
Id heard rumours of this new celica too - i think its aimed at the Teggy type R - still FWD though as far as im lead to believe
Caldina wagons are coming out with a GT 4 version - so lets hope to CHRIST they actually bring back a Celica Gt4 and go WRX hunting

I think Toyota will struggle if the bring out the GT4 again. IN the early nineties, the Celica was a pretty big seller, plus they had the rally heritage. Now they arent very inspiring, nor have any sporting attachment. The 205 sold at 80K! Bit out of WRX league.
