JZZ30 vs JZA80 w00t!! Thu, 20 March 2003 11:48 Go to next message
This one actually happened about 2 weeks ago but I've been busy so haven't been posting lately.

Was coming home from work and see a 2jz supra up ahead booting it round a corner and lighting it up. Had a big body kit and some kind of megaphone attached to his bov.

Anyway I caught up to him and was in the left lane, he was in the middle. lights are red.

Both had our windows down and so I said hello, he says to me 'i've got to turn left up ahead' (left lane merges off about 80 metres ahead).

I answer 'well you better pull in behind' with a big Very Happy on my face.

He stalled the supra up and we took off, side by side untill he had to change to second where I got a car length on him. Was so Happy with my car!!! and he had to pull in behind much to his disapointment.

Anyway at the next lights he says that he only got the car registered that day and congratulated me on a nice ride. Aren't toyota drivers the best, normally they'd give you the bird after you blew them away.

We then went at it again from a rolling start and I think I impressed him a little again. Ended up playing games for about 20kms

3 TT and 3 N/A

we'll let him off, since it was the first day his car was registered (so he'ds probably only driven it a few times)

was it a TT or not?

if it was, i would have thought that the supra would have won, assuming he could drive.

it was a TT. and although it was the first day he had the car registered he said he had taken it to wakefield park before....

My car is putting out almost 180kw at the wheels now though.... thats nothing to sneeze at!

MMmm... so should his tho, plus I'm fairly sure the luxo-barge is a hundred or 2 kg heavier than the supra (although the mk4s are heavy little besties)

The MkIVs weigh about 1600kg as opposed to the 1800 or so kg of the MkIIIs.

Now, they're fat!

mk3 supras weigh 1800?!?!?
I knew they were heavy, but I was thinking 1400-1500
1800 is rediculous

edit: I'm glad I didn't end up getting one instead of my relatively light mk2

What mods have you done Remedy? 180 would be my goal. I would like more but it would be a bit useless at the moment.

Thanks

Only very simple mods but seems to work well on the dyno
3inch exhaust,
HKS EVC boost controller (can run upto 1 bar though rarely do)
Apexi SAFC

Had it at the drags last week, pretty silly considering I'm running stock wheels and tyres. Was traction loss city all the way through 1st and 2nd.

Anyone know of a set of wheels with 265+ tyres I can have for next street meet.

EDIT: and just did a search on weights of supra vs soarer. Supra is suposedly 1500kg, soarer is 1560kg in TT trim (V8 would be more).

That is excellent!

How loud is it now with a 3" zorst?

Is it quiet in the car?

Can they make a "quiet" exhaust vs a "loud one and get simmilar performance? Is it 3" all the way or just cat back?

If it's all the way how did you go about getting the top part...isn't this very very hard? (Just after reading HPI mags it seems to be)

I get mighty confused by the HKS EVC & Apexi SAFC and the others. What do they do? Can I put the HKS EVC on and get rid of the 180 limiter or do I need a Power FC?

I can only dream though really...I have the cash sitting in the bank now to do some serious stuff to my car but with the f*#cked petrol they have in the bush it isn't really worth it. I get BP premium out of a self serve place where you need a card (the service stations out here don't have anyone working in them and the only other service station that has Premium fuel is 100k's away in the other direction) and I really have to wonder if it's any good. I fill up every Sunday and every Sunday the $ amount that is on the pump is that of what I took out the week before. If I get out $52.64 the next week that amount is still on their!! The past 6 months the only person that has used the pump has been me. Can petrol go off?? I don't know what it is but my car has over the past 2 weeks devolped a ping when on boost. Could this be petrol?

Oh and when I had to get my car passed for it's 1st rego in OZ I had to get it weighed. I went to a truck depot that weighs grain and they weighed me in at 1680kg with 3/4 tank of petrol.

Mine is a GT/L twin turbo. Subwoofer electric seats and all the other gizmos.

And what is the go with some Soarers having an extra screen on the bottom of the dash. What is this? I have 3 screens now...one for Odo. One for time and can give you a readout of what the engine is doing or like when you pull on the handbrake when driving Jap writing comes up (not that I pull on the handbrake when driving Rolling Eyes ) and the one on the left had what gear your in. Is that what they are talking about or do some have more functions??

I have 3 inch from the factory dump pipe back. With a 3 inch highflow cat too.

At idle and cruising speeds the exhaust isn't too bad. Step on the loud pedal and you know about it though.

The EVC is Boost controller... thats all it does, control boost.

the SAFC allows you to lean out your mixtures as they run very rich from stock. IF you want to remove the speed limiter you need an Apexi Rev Speed Metre or RSM. can pick them up second hand pretty cheap and not too hard to install.

The weights you found make sense, the figure I had was most likely a dry weight, so no coolant, oil or fuel etc.

Mine is an Auto. My ET at the drags was 15.1 . As I said had no traction through 1st and 2nd. But I hit a top speed of 100mph, which would normally indicate a mid to low 14 second pass.

Oh and if you want to know what the jap messages mean that come up on your screen go to this site, print it out and leave it in your glovebox.
