Out at penrith last night, there was cops on push bikes and cars chasing around people who they thought they could take some money off. They had a big RTA and EPA crackdown. The Penrith RTA on york street was open until about midnight, taking cars that had been sent there by the cops on pushys and cars. Basically they were taking all the cars through the pits. I got done for 17inch wheels, Exhaust to loud (when backing off (107dB)) air filter, and other little shit which is an easy fix. They said i would have at least $400 in fines heading my way. I asked the cop that stopped where we were parked (i want even driving, just sitting at maccas talking with some mates) ' Why are you doing this? ' the cop replied, ' No one likes all of you people hanging around, you are a nuisance. ' 'Where can we go then to keep us out of harm, and away from you??' ............ ' No where the cop replied '
WHAT THE F$#@%#!!!!! Cops are F^$#^%#S! we cant go anywhere to hang about and meet other people with nice cars.. Frustrates the hell outta me.
Just like to finish up with F#@$%@$# $#%@$# %^#$!@# $#^%@#!!!!!
( PS does anyone have a standard twinky exhaust i could borrow?? )

That is an interetsing point. Being on private property and not even driving would make me call my lawyer on the spot. Though most people probably don't have a lawyer they can contact.
That has go to be the most blatant bit of revenue raising I have heard yet. The exhaust thing might be an easy fix as well, relatively. Just get another muffler put inline to keep it under the limit on back-off.
Go an read this and see if your wheels are indeed legal or not.

Cops love to try and book you for things that are in fact within the ADRs.
Cheers.

I know what you mean. Cops are an annoyance. I was driving the other day coming off a roundabout and a cop car was about to enter the roundabout from exit I was taking. As I came off I looked at the cop car (Maybe a stupid thing to do) after that it took off and went around the roundabout and followed me for a few minutes then they finally stopped me. They treated me like crap cause I was a young looking driver. They held me up for about 5 minutes checking my drivers details and got me to do a breathaliser and all this other stuff.

17's are indeed illegal on an AE82... I believe the maximum would be around a 16x6.5 or 16x7...

They told me that you can only go 1 inch bigger than standard.. which would make it 15" the biggest..
They had told me to expect 2 x $200 fines in the mail... one for my air filter, and one for my exhaust...
On the defect notice, it also has that i can only drive it for two days after the date of issue!??!! i cant believe it..
why dont we just open our wallets when we get pulled over? it would cut out all the s$#% in the middle, and they will still have the same result in the end...

you can go one indh WIDER than standard, if you can get 20 inch rims that are not more than one inch wider than standard, then they are legale (provided they dont change the rolling diameter b more than bugger all) thats the score in victoria anyway.

If your exhaust is 107db you shouldn't be driving the car anyway. Have some consideration for other people. I have clowns driving up and down past my place every Friday and Saturday night with stereos up full noise and loud exhausts and it is damn annoying. I appreciate anyone who spend time and/or money modifying their cars but 107db deserves everything you got.

when on the gas, or at a constant revs, it is only 87 dB which is 5dB under the limit, only when backing off is it that loud.. which the EPA guy told me it is partially attributed to the air filter...
why are things like air filters illegal? the difference between my on and a standard one is the plastic box around it.. I'm sure if i could fit the standard box over the pod filter, they wouldn't care the less, even if the box did suck air through the engine bay (not having the intake point somewhere outside the body..) i don't understand it?
they also say they don't like us hanging around?? well then give us somewhere to go.
Life shouldn't be this difficult, people must go out of their way to make it harder for others.

matt.
my advice to you would be to get the defects lifted and then get the whole car engineered, then when the cops try and get ya, you can just pull your pants and politely ask them to suck your dick .. i have friends who have their whole car engineered, one is a corolla with 17s modded gze, lowered big exhaust and filter etcetc... when he gets pulled over, he just whips out the papers and the cops are on there way.. oh and with the maccas thing... i'd say that is about 90% of the reason they went over your car.. they hate pppl hangin round maccas.. if u want sumwhere to go.. find a quiet spot in panthers car park... we been doin it for months and havent seem a cop try and defect any1 yet.. all you hav to deal with are the panthers seccas,, who just tell u to move on,, with no great care,, if they keep buggin ya just move ya cars over a row and they go again..
good luck liften em anyways

Knock on wood, I have never had trouble with cops. I tend to stay away from Brighton, Bondi etc, I dont "cruise" around if you like. Unless of course its a club cruise, cops are usually ok with this.

Enclose your filters in a box.
The thing they get you on is a fire hazard.
I still don't understand why people don't box pod's or other filters anyway, what's the point having an open filter in a hot engine bay?
If you feel the need to hang at macca's, then my idea would be to not stand around your cars, go inside, or, someplace else in the carpark to chat.

its strange you know i think the local constabulary have enough to deal with (at the moment) than bothering folks with their cars.
i like the idea of engineering too. a nice piece of paper in the glovebox which says "fuckoff you can't do shit" works for me.
my celica (if ever finished) will be this way. although i'm an old fart so they may (thats MAY) just leave me alone
