Yep, I just had my first ever accident, and its not pretty.
Reversing out of my driveway straight into a car that was driving past. I could have sworn I looked for cars (?)
Anyway, bumper bar was pushed in and split, paint gone, added some new maroon sorta colour, and pushed in some of the body of the car (in between the tail light and bumper).
Gotta love these moments when you have no insurance Sad

Who cares about the other car, I wont even go there.

Well the other car didnt even brake - the stupid wanker!! So the whole side of his tarago is pushed in and scratched to shit. His damage is gonna cost a bit I think, not something I am looking forward to.

celicamad.... fark!
how on earth did you afford that?
that's the one thing that terrifies me at the moment.... not insured. which is why I'm eager to get my car engineered, and regoed (which is due in 3 weeks)... then I'll get insurance.
paying $600 a year is a small price i figure, to avoid a bill like that.

ladySX.. my condolances. if it comes in at under $4000 count yourself lucky. Those side collisions tend to damage 2 or 3 panels, which have to be beaten, sprayed, etc etc.

back when I was insured, I had a fender bender (10km/hr). my car had a small dent in the number plate, and somehow I managed to do almost $2000 to the other car

I had insurance once upon a time, but with my car being modified the way it is, coupled with the fact that I am on my last demerit points leg (one more speeding fine = loss of licence for 6 months) insurance for me is a fantasy.
Anyway, here is a pic of my car Sad

Nice to see that the damage isn't too bad...

But bad to hear of the stack and the 'no insurance' thing...

Hope it all works out though...

I am 23, with an imported 300HP Turbo Supra, with 18inch mags and lots more aftermarket shit. I have 6 speeding fines in the last 5 years, and only 2 points left on my licence. NRMA gave me 3rd party property insurance last week for $220.

They also insure my laser, and MA61 supra, both of them for $220 as well.

Dont say you cant get insurance, 3rd party property insurance is easy. Pick up the phone and get a few quotes. Driving uninsured is STUPID, and anyone doing so deserves to learn a lesson by having an accident. Imagine if some idiot wrote off your car, and had no insurance and no money to pay for it to be fixed. How would you feel then ?

Have you learnt your lesson now ?

too bad ladysx.......i know what you mean about getting it fixed.

i reversed my lancer into a metal barrier (was tired) and didn't claim it on insurance - it cost me $600 (i figured i'd lose my rating and given it was my own stupidity i paid)

SUPRA MAN: I worked in an insurance department writing car insurance, I know what is and isnt possible. For starters, your car has a standard engine right? Something mine does not have. Secondly, I have lost 12 demerit points in less than 3 years - a lot worse than you. 3rd party insurance is NOT possible for me, I assure you. I am not an irresponsible person, trust me, if I could get it, I would!!

No thanks!!
I'm ashamed to say that I'm Victorian...esp. given how the politicians have wrecked the place. (No wondered there is a net population loss each year, with people moving Interstate).

On a side note, has anyone ever wondered about Governments bringing all this so-called prosperity to their states (and raising revenue via ever more punitive fines etc), when you don't see it "flowing" to the average Joe??? Where exactly does this extra money (which is ours, BTW) go???

ladysx : justcars

their policy is they will insure anybody at all, no matter driving history or car.
you might end up paying quite a bit more due to the demerit point issue, but they're going to charge me around $600 for a mk2 supra, engine transplant (to a 1jz turbo), plus exhaust, suspension, steering wheel, pod filter, and a 15-30 speeding fine

all for 0-5 over the limit?
if that had happened to me 6 times (like it must have to you) that would drive me absolutely nuts.

I do 0-15 over the limit all the time. if I get busted for 15-30 I figure I deserve it, but 0-15 is what happens when you go with the flow of traffic, or take your eyes off the speedo for more than a couple of seconds

looks like the damage to yours isnt overly bad - at least its not a few feet shorter ladySX

Nods though to insurance - 3rd party isd bugger all cost to cover at least the other drivers bum if something goes wrong ..

One reason when i bought my GT4 - was i made sure i could also cover the insurance for it - and i checked what classes it as
" modified " - lucky for me - it scrapes in by a nose for normal level of insurance ..

Re speeding fines - well - 5k over isnt so bad - but that many in 3 years meansd either your bloody unlucky - or just have a car that likes to sneak above 60.. 5 mins extra on a journy going at 55 wont hurt thats for sure - if you know your areas crawling with speed cameras - youve probably heard that all before .

out of curiousity - how much IS third party coverage for something liek your corolla - cant be that dear ?? not even with just cars or the likes ..

as an example - my old ta22 - while not " supercharged " did have some serious modifications done to it including a more powerful motor and i had no issues bar with the likes of AAMI and RACV insurance to cover it

last bill from shannons ( though a specialised classic car insurere ) was a little over 450 for full comprehensive - and they wanted me to do MORE modifications to it.

The GT4 as an example - thru shannons - on rating one for a driver UNDER 25 for full coverage ( im 24 ) is costing me around the $1300 dollar mark for this year . the only conditions is i cant do any more " performance " modifications till i am 25 - which means the high flow turbo and front mount is ruled out till then , though i will be checking on wheels/suspension allowances later in the week

I have spoken to both Shannons and Unique in the past, both seem pretty good to deal with, although I have heard Unique become pricks when its time to pay a claim. I will get onto Shannons and see if they will crumble to my begging for insurance. From memory I think when I spoke to Just Cars they told me where to go, but I am not 100% I just know I never looked at them as an option once I had recieved the quote.
Well in the meantime shit happens, I am just lucky it was minor this time.

Yeah maybe it was something ridiculous like that for me too, from memory i think they only cover about $1000 for stereo and dont cover wheels at all either. I dont think i got a 3rd party quote from them though as i really want full comp.

Yup, same. Wheels werent covered at all, and something tiny (cant remember exactly) for the stereo. Considering it would cost me slightly more to just import another Soarer, it really wasn't worth it. But at least I'm covered just in case I ever hit a Rolls or something.

Very true. Ijust got off the phone to shannons, $2000 per year rating one, insured for $12K but it needs to be approved by management due to driving history. Same deal with the management for 3rd party.
Not a bad quote I guess, considering they cover everything on the car, will look into it further for when the car is repaired, seeing as they need to sight the car as well.

LadySX... sorry to hear bout the smash... no exactly what its like to be stuck without insurance. At least you didn't hit a cabby - dam! they know how to hit you up for lost income!! Mad

Another idea for the full comp. insurance thing is NRMA - but with 'multi-policy' discount (house & contents, etc.) and using your parents 'no claim'. To insure my GT4 for around $14k without the discounts is around $6500, but then add the discounts and you get $2400 (approx). I suppose you have to be lucky enough that your parents will actually agree to using their 'no claim' in the first place. (may have to show that they have some sort of financial interest in the car as well?)

Oh... my driving record ain't the cleanest either!

79 in a 40 zone Razz and $560 later. Just do easy to do - be making sure I'm on time from now on!!

DavGT4 great idea but I dont live with my parents, for that matter I dont really have anything to do with them. Apart from that I believe that they are contents insuranceless!
This is my first ever accident, so apart from my fines I am not a huge risk to an insurance company, its just the red tape that makes it hard Sad
Once my car is repaired though I will shop around for some cover so if this sort of thing ever occurs again, I wont have to stress about it.

Noticed last night as well that the impact on my car broke a clamp on my back muffler, so its jiggling around like crazy - extra noises for me to listen to while driving, also an extra excuse to pump up the music Wink

My supra is stock standard apart from a stainless muffler, and 18X8 rims. Because supra rims are 7 inch standard, 8 inch is still legal. NRMA knowabout both my mags and the muffler.
