ITS FINISHED...AND TUNED!
|

Well, after 9 or so months of headaches, shitfights and near bankruptcy many times, the old girl has been bought back to life....so to speak.
After a couple of small problems with the distributer and Motec software, it hit the rollers on Thursday.
1st run = 196.5rwhp @ 8 psi
2nd run = 227rwhp @ 12psi
3rd run = 240.8rwhp @ 14psi
4th run = 250.4rwhp @ 14.5psi (spent a bit more time tuning at this boost level as this is what i am currently running)
5th run (on Friday arvo) = 307rwhp @ 18psi
Problem with this is the turbos are pushing way too much air for the motor to swallow (ie, compresor surge big time!), and it gets worse with more boost. Hence the reason its on 14psi now. Next mod is either a Ford 65mm throttle body, or Commo 75mm, and 5 litre intake plenum. Unfortunately, this wont be done before the nationals
It is now fucking awsome to drive, turns the tires in the 1st 3 gears very easily .
I have 3 or 4 of the graphs on a disc, but i cant open them due to me not having the program to do it .
Hopefully before the nationals it will see 270-280hp with a few more "fiddlings".
Huge thanks go to "Dyno" Dave Flood and Dave Loftus from Redline Motorsport (Dyno Daves tuning is second to none), James at Grooverider Fabrications (his work is on display in the engine bay, does awsome job), Aaron at AWA Automotive for the bodywork.........
There are heaps of other people to thank, but these come to mind straight away.....many thanks to everyone else that helped out.....
....especially my girlfriend for puting up with my shit, always there with words of encouragement every time i was ready to put a match to the f@%#ing thing......

Here Here for Dyno Dave, the man's legend - I still owe him many cans of Beam and cola for all the saturday night tuneups !!!!
Dave if your reading - start another business and bring some cred back to the sydney dyno tuning scene !
Great effort Phil, cant wait to see it in person.

went for a ride in this car yesterday and FAR OUT! .. it pulls hard. Bout time it was backj onthe road and as long as this baby doesn't feel attracted to short term real estate, it should be a weapon of choice for years to come.

U bunch of pussies ... dubbo is 5 hours max away if u drive at the speed limit. Thats not far, tell the supra club to pull their fingers out and come for a little drive! haha.
its 414km's from the centre of sydney to dubbo, trust me i used to live there.
Best time, 2am-5:30am in my sprinter 4agze. Mind u i know the roads damn well and u make all the time up if u can get from castle hill to lithgow in an hour.
Anyhow... when we leave for dubbo as a group.. i'm gonna be doing the speed limit all the way, and not below, last time we went to dubbo it took way to friggen long. If u wanna go slow , eg 70 in a 100 zone, u can form your own groups. Phill and i will be up the front not holding up the traffic!

no worries Luke... for this reason Joel's unofficial cruise down is going to be casual and everyone will travel at their own pace (so there won't be large numbers trying to travel together)
in fact i think there are going to be a couple of leaving times so the groups should be smallish

a .pcx file is an image file. If you have MS imaging (installed with windows I think) it should be able to open it, if not try some of the other image programs you have, you are bound to have one.

Paul,
Dyno time was $440 (includes GST). There was bout 5 hours worth in total i think. That was from starting the motor to final tune.
This may seem like alot to some people, but i was prepared to pay double that just cos dave knows what he is doing, whereas alot of other tuners rely on guess work
The turbo was burning oil, i didnt blow it up. But if i didnt get it fixed, it would have gone thru at least 10 litres over the nats weekend....it was that bad.

Traction is getting 1250LB of torque, what does that work out to be in Newton metres? I've been trying to find the formula for years!

Hey Nark, gettin envy yet?
Damn doods - I'd like to break 200hp ATM...
no boost yet tho ($$$)
I love that power curve! I had something like that once - when you can get the traction, you getinto a long gear, and you just get pushed back, and head for light speed!
Very soothing feeling.

Guys,
Torque will ALWAYS increase at the wheels, not decrease! This is due to the ratio of the diff gears (in my case 3.9:1).
1250lb/3.9 = 320lb @ flywheel (in theory, and only with what i think it should be)
Now, 320foot/lb = ~ 433nm @ flywheel.....which seems to be about right.

.....provided the run was done in fourth (1:1) gear. Any other (lower) gear will also result in multiplication of torque.
Impressive nonetheless.

How are my injectors treating you? How close are they to the right size? 6x440's should be good for about 520hp... assuming a 25% driveline loss, you should hav a fair bit left in them (390rwhp). Sounds like they're spot on, should give fairly good economy too.

Lee,
The injectors are great, currently running at about 53% duty cycle.......fuck all really .
Actually, the whole fuel system is a bit on the large size....but anyway..
The 1GGE dizzy is a garden variety electronic dizzy, whereas the GTE one has a double ended rotor button, that houses 2 diodes.....and will only ever fire the 1st 3 cylinders when used with an aftermarket ECU
