Does anyone know if theres a DVD player on the market that supports the DivX format??
Anyone know if you can re-program a PS2 or Xbox to play DivX movies??
Cheers Brett

I think there are, or I read a few months ago that someone was making one...
Don't remember the specifics though. Sorry.
Try a search of slashdot?

If you mod an Xbox then you can run xbox media player on it and play any type of media that media player for the PC can play. This also allows you to play burnt discs, and all region codes of DVD. You can also put a big hard disk in the xbox and simply rip the games to hard disk once it's modded.
Of course this is simply info I've picked up around the place and I wouldn't dream of condoning such action. I do know a lot of people who would though.

yeh i've heard of a mod chip for a ps2 that allows u to watch divx.
Also gamecube r starting to use divx technology for their games i think. So don't be surprised if there's a modchip for that in the future to do the same.

Yea I hear rumblings on manfacturers looking at it, but as an interum solution for watching DiVX on my DVD player; I get the DiVX onto my computer and turn it into a MPEG 2 VCD, you can get decent quality and good sound if you use a 90Min(800MB) CD, you cant get these cd's in shops, but are available off the net, bout $40 for 50 CDs. Failing that if you dont mind swapping discs half way through the movie you can get really nice quality(nearly DVD) if you split the movie onto 2 discs. If you want more info the programs I use etc..PM me or leave a note here.

I don't think any "name" brands like nintendo will use the divx codec, it's a little too underground isn't it? can't imagine them risking their name with "hackers"... anyway why would they bother?? the game cube is dvd aint it?? got storage space to waste!! they don't need bother with compression.

Actually, the GameCube is only current-gen console that doesn't have a DVD drive, so it wouldn't be able to play divx even if it could (they use a different size disc).

GC does use DVD's, but smaller non standard double layered ones......Just bought me some 800MB Cd's from Jaycar today for $12 perfect for a DivX to VCD swap, an extra 100MB lets you have alot better audio.
