just how original is the original specified here?
according to the nationals site i have 6 mods i think, which puts me in the modified category
I mean, i dont exactly have big mods, just the following:
- 15" wheels
- lowered suspension
- mild retrimmed and redone interior
- GT spec motor (18R-GU instead of 18R-C)
- aftermarket steering wheel
- extractors + 2" exhaust
- 45mm Weber carbies
So would that make me ineligable for tailshaft loop exemption?

Or mine...
Has a 1UZ-FE.
17" rims and 45-series tyres.
LSD (So what?)
Interior - stock
Suspension - stock (Haven't got 'round to replacing it yet!)
Brakes - stock.
Would I (hypothetically) need a 'loop???

WITZL - You're probably OK as you could argue the engine is stock for the car.
ROB - your not going in drags anyway so loop is irrelevant
BIASED99 - You will need to fit one based on hp.
The waiving of the loop requirement is intended for older, low hp cars. NOT late model standard cars.

Grant,
I know my car is a late model, but is there any chance this may not apply to me due to it being a 2 piece shaft.

I would just like to clear up this issue of the tail shaft loop. The decision wether to allow a car to compete in the drags without a loop is entirely up to Dubbo City Car Club; not me. The waiving of this requirement was intended for those that had an EARLY MODEL Toyota with a stock (low hp) engine. If you do not fit into this category then you NEED A LOOP.

Hmm, mine's also in-between categories... it might have the stock 3S-FE engine with bugger-all done to it, but the exterior says something completely different.
17" x 7.5" chromes and fat rubber replace the stockers;
Koni shocks and King springs (front) and Jumbo springs (rear) lowered 60mm all-round;
Parts of the RAV4 are non-stock in paint colour (some purple bits); etc...

Grant, does the event have CAMS affiliation, or is a club with CAMS affiliation invited or helping run the event?
If so, I could drive my Mk2 Corona coupe up.

Nah, can't afford it this year. Maybe next year when the RAV4 will probably not be a true RAV4 anymore.

To ppl a tail shaft loop is a loop that is attached to the floor pan around the tailshaft. Meant to catch it if it shits itself going up the 1/8 mile. Its sits just back from the box so it will in effect stop the tail shaft spewing into the ground or floor pan and possibly damaging the track or rolling the car. If the rear uni of the tailshaft fails, the shaft just drops to the ground and just gets dragged. However you do risk flipping the car if the front uni fails and diggs into the ground.
Grant having read this thread later than the 9th of april deadline. Am i able to enter the drags as a tail shaft loop was a turn off for me as the raw 57.1kw of the crown didn't seem an issue. I have entered the show and shine am I able to pay the extra $$$$ and also enter the drags and still be right with your insurance issues???

That's fine. Please send an email to "toyotanationals@idl.com.au" requesting the change and making a note of your rego number (so we get the right car). I'll then amend the list to include you.
