turbo oil-seals

Been noticing a reasonable amount of oil making its way past the seals on my turbo recently (well for a while now...). It's a ball-bearing garrett t3 (from the vg30 engine), I've heard these can't be rebuilt but is it possible to change the oil-seals? If so is it worth it (price wise or in terms of longevity)? Any advice would be much appreciated. Cheers, Chris.

hey chris
is it leaking out the exhaust side, or past the compressor wheel into your inlet?
I 'think' replacing the seals is not going to be much simpler than a full rebuild anyway. You still need to take the whole shaft out & beadblast it where the ring seal on the exhaust side fits to remove the carbon buildup, then you're up for a balance (I paid $130 just for the balance) once its back together.
Maybe its time to bolt a GT30 in its place
cheers
Phil

Some turbo places WILL have a go at these turbos - but a couple of important things first - are you using the correct oil restrictor, is your drain back adequate, and are you SURE there's no positive pressure in the crankcase - preferably negative.
