Toyota Soarer (JZZ30) fuel economy question Thu, 27 March 2003 00:31 Go to next message
What sort of fuel economy are people getting with the 1JZ powered soarer ??

I have a feeling mine is running rich I normally drive it in eco mode and not power mode as such.
I am getting about 600KM/79 litres using 98 Octane fuel.

That is awesome fuel economy, I get about 400ks to a tank.
if it is stock it will be running rich though.

This topic has been covered before but again;

Manuals seem to get better ecconomy than autos by about 10-15%.

With 4.44:1 (3000 Rpm @ 100) diff gears i could get 10l/100km on the highway.

Autos were doing well to return 12L/100.

Around town consumption, Shocked Don't ask.

That's pretty good fuel economy for a Soarer - you'd be the envy of a few Auto 1J Soarer owners.
Interestingly, since starting my upgrade path, my fuel economy has not changed too much considering it's putting out more than 100rwkw than stock nowadays.
On a very recent 11,500km trip to the west coast and back via the southern coastline, I got pretty similar fuel economy regardless of wether I was crusing at 90km/hr or 150 km/hr for extended periods of time.
I agree that the Manual Soarers seem to be more fuel efficient that the Autos based on postings on ALSC.

I got 11L/100k's today on a nice easy drive which I think is great. I only got 350ish k's the last tank (well 68 litres) but I swear I didn't fill it right up...i couldn't have cause it never seems to drink that much.

My car has just started to not idle very well (last few weeks) and even when dead cold won't idle like it did when I 1st got it (+or- 1300rpm).

When hot or cold it will idle at 200-250rpm. It's getting to be a pain and even sometimes it will stall even when revving it (usually revs great for about 4 seconds then dies even at 4000rpm.

What could this be? Electrical?

Sounds like the fuel pump Viagraboy. Check the forums for posts which describe your exact symptoms www.alsc.aus.as

BTW, I get crap fuel use regardless of how nice I drive the car. The best I've EVER gotten in 1.5 years is 13.4L/100km, and worst is around 16L/100km.
