I have never owned a sprinter but from what I have seen you will probable have to pull some bits apart so you can have a look at the machanical side of the switch. It is probable a broken hing or the pull cable has sliped out of it's anchor point, you should be able to figure it out by moving the switch around and examining how it works.

Is there any tension on the armature when you try to move to a different setting? if not then the cable is either broken or disconnected. if you still feel the cable moving then it is likely that the plastic arm that connects to the flap has broken and the unit may as well be thrown away....not such a big deal though because all AE80 series rollas ran the same nippondenso fan unit and theyre fairly cheap from a wrecker.

i had the same problem the same problem in the T-18
it turned out the plastic thingo the cable attaches to was broken, i had to pull all the dash out, and the heater..
Pulled the heater apart and replace the drum thing it attaches to from spare T-18... works like a charm now
