Tree Sap on Primer Mon, 31 March 2003 03:18 Go to next message
Hi all,
My RA23 has one coat of primer on it at the moment, anyway my prick of a brother pushed it out of the Garage all last week and left it under the trees (with no panels, windows or doors) and now there is sap all over the primer.
I'm guessing the primer is totally ruined now, I've tried to sand it back but you can still see some spots on it. Do I have no other choice but to take it back to bare metal and start again?

Yep start again! The sap will act like silicon! I think we all know what happens when you paint over silicon Confused

Pound your brother real good! It won't help your sap problem but it will make you feel better. Cool1 is right, get in and remove any trace of the sap, even if you use wax and grease remover plus put silicone drops in the paint it wouldn't garantee a smooth and well bonded coating...and you don't want to paint the car only to rub the car back again because the sap kept on messing with the finish. Sounds shitty but painting is all about prepping...gotta get that right.

Well the whole reason my car was outside was so my brother could paint his so I might accidentally trip while carrying paint stripper past his crapolla!!! One advantage I have is I'm daddy's little girl and dad had put a lot of time into the car as well so my brother got a really good speaking too. Evil or Very Mad

Revenge is sweet!! Twisted Evil

Still doesn't solve the sap problem! Looks like I'm back to square one again. Mad well it's only one coat of paint so it won't take too long to paint strip back to metal.

It would be great to make my brother sand it back Greg but he's a real prick to everyone at the moment and he's the centre of the universe. (He's 19, what can you expect!)

Thanks for your help guys.

I know, not all 19 y.o. are dick heads, only some and I happen to live with one of them.

I think he's just jealous that my car will end up better than his crapolla.

Sabotage is always great. But it has to be something he can fix and not have to ask for Dad's help cause that's not fair on dad!!

I could just get a rope and hook it to the back of his car and my car and drive cause his car would crumble cause it's bog!
That would be funny! Laughing

Get claw hammer and take off the weights on his wheels to throw them out of balance really badly! Twisted Evil

Sap on primer, what a bummer.
Step 1: clean all sap off with eucalyptus oil.
Step 2: Wash all affected parts with a heavy mix of sugar soap and water.
Step 3: lightly sand the car(600-800 DRY) to ensure there are no more spots.
Step 4: Spray a light coat of HI FILL,(Hi Fill has good sealing properties)
Step 5: Guide coat and sand off before applying colour coat.

I have sprayed about 20 cars, and I had (past tense) a gum tree that used to spit all over the cars. the above method has worked well a number of times.

Regards Chuck.

LOL...thats so funny because its true

everyset of lights is a P plater vl commo reving it up for a run, i like to rev it up a bit so they want to go me, then when the lights turn green just let them go off so they are no longer a danger to me or the celica

ra23celicachick: the one big thing that pisses me off when i driving the most is unbalanced wheels that shake the steering and cause tyres to wear down almost overnight, as i buy costly tyres it really hurts....you do have to do something to make him think or he wont learn, at least thats my experience anyhow

just remember.. the best years of your life are already behind you.. you've got nothing left in life to look forward to but slowing of the mind, drooping of the body, and withering of joy.

Yeah, things have really slowed down on the whole working on the car but in that time I've actually bought a good dash, an 18R-G and stripped back a fair bit of primer.

I'm getting some photo's developed so hopefully I'll be able to get them scanned on so I can post them!!!!
