Does a 3TGTEU oil pump need priming after dismantling it? is it just a matter of filling it with oil and putting it in? and how far should the oil relief screw on the side of the pump be screwed in? wish this was covered in the manual.
cheers.

The relief valve spring cover, should be tightened fully, fill the pump with oil when assembling. Before fitting the oil pump spiral gear drive, located on the side of the block, use a broad blade screwdriver to rotate the oil pump(2-3 litres of oil in sump), and listen to all the air being pushed out as the oil fills your crankshaft, camshaft etc. probably 20 to 30 turns of the pump. When the engine is installed in the car, remove spark plugs, and crank the engine over for 30-60 seconds on the starter, this will ensure that you do not "dry start" the engine.
Good luck with the rebuild.

great thanks chunk!! not sure how i'll go turning the oil pump over using the screwdriver method as i can't get the oil pump drive shaft out without taking the head off (it hits the head, just under the distributer).
