It normally causes a compression lockup which could smash the spigot bearing and in turn damage the rear seal!
Trust me I did this

I did something similiar, actually it was hitting 11,000rpm with a stuck throttle with the rev limiter disabled... All seemed fine for a while, but it had stretched the rod bolts and they snapped a couple of weeks later, 600km from home
Needless to say, that engine never went again!
That was on a turbo'd 4agze

I think i'll consider myself lucky.
The motor turns over fine.
Dont think i lost any rods out the side of the block.
A mate helped me work out by using the gear ratio that i would of been doin 9000-10000rpm in 2nd for about 1-2 seconds.
BTW gearbox seems fine too.
So that compression lockup u talk about is that BIG jolt i experienced. Rite?

If it was a compression lock up, you would have heard the rear tyres lock. Your engine and drivetrain should be alright, however racecars are always damaging parts due to over-revving when downshifting, and theirs are a lot stronger than standard road cars.
Drive it and if something lets go in the next couple of months you will know why.

So I guess the stocker has started to complain. That didn't last long
I am going to try one more centre swap. The next one will be the Hilux I think.
