Since finding out that the previous owner of my car had 'hard-wired' my superchager on, i have discovered that this may well damage it in the long run. How can i remedy a switch to disengage/engage it, and can somebody explain the 'magnetic' clutch out and what it does? I can't seem to hear mine tick!

have a look at a wiring diagram for the 4agze, the computer has a terminal used to switch a relay which engages the magnetic clutch, if you re wire this part of the loom then your s/c should work as per factory.the magnetic clutch is exactly that a clutch which is operated electro-magnetically (ie when power is applied then the clutch will engage- turning the s/c or a/c)
are you running the stock ecu?
if not, it might be always on because your aftermarket one isn't able to turn it on and off....
the problem id face if using my microtech digi 1
theres a pin called smc
which is called supercharger magnetic clutch
it earth triggers the superchager relay which then earths out the earth side of the supercharger magnetic clutch
the supercharger has ignition to it aswell
