electronic speedo on 20v??? Wed, 02 April 2003 13:15 Go to next message
hey guys
i'm looking at getting a 20V in a corrolla that i've found for sale
dont know much about these motors and was wondering how you get the electronic speedo to work with an analogue speedo... is it just a matter of fitting a drive gear instead of the electronic pick up or what???
thanx

wehat do u mean
if the speedo is electronic and not cable all u need is the electronic speedo drive that comes factory in most 20v gboxs and run the signal wire to the electronic speedo

i dont quite understand what u wanna do

which speedo u using
if u run yr factory analoge one then just swap the speedo drive from yr orig box to the 20v box

tell me which speedo (in the dash) u wanna run and what speedo drive u have in the g/box

yes i am using a std ae82 analogue speedo.
that's what i was hoping, that i could just use the speedo drive out of a std ae82 gear box and just put in the 20valve gear box... is it that simple?
thanx

im pretty sure its that simple

is yr car originally carby
cause if it is then the back of the speedo in the dash has no electronic output for the speed signal into the ecu

if u dont have the speedo signal to the ecu it doesnt matter much its just if u hook up a warning light then it will flash when u drive

if yr car was efi b4 hand then all u have to do is connect the spee signal wire to the correct pin on the 20v computer

well u can do 2 things
not worry bout speed signal and dont hook up warning light

or

get a dash out of an efi corolla same model as yours
then run a wire from back of dash (speedo signal) to the ecu

then run a wire from back of dash from warning light to ecu

this way it will all be like standard and its easy when checking codes
