From the pictures it looks like there is an elbow welded onto the turbo compressor outlet?

Yes that is an aluminium bend tig welded to the outlet. It can easily be cutoff to return it to the original hose arrangement. I've just got it setup that way cause it doesnt protrude as far out from the compressor housing as a hose section & then a bend, as my turbo sits up quite close to the bonnet.
I'm not 100% certain on selling right now, might take me a couple of weeks to source another turbo to be sure I want to change..... I really like the relentless topend of this turbo, but its really not working as hard as it should on my little 1.6 litre. The cash is tempting right now though....

TOY77:
My 4AGTE is a stock 4AGZE bottom end, with an early bluetop 4AGE bigport head & intake manifold. I'm using mazda 13B 550cc injectors, haltech E6K computer, the abovementioned turbo, 3" exhaust, 600x350x60mm intercooler. This turbo is a bit too 'peaky' on a 1600 in my opinion, it was much better suited to my grunter 1.8 3TGTE. on the 4AGTE, it makes 5psi at 3500rpm, but doesnt really hit hard until 4500, then its a case of holding on as it trys to launch you off the road! This hiflow upgrade is usually done on 3SGTE motors, which most people claim isnt much laggier than the standard 3S setup. I'm running 17psi at the moment.
celicaboy:
this turbo may well still be available in a month or so, i'm not completely sure how keen I am to get rid of it..... depending on how keen cool1 is on buying it!
Cool1:
I've sent you a PM

What was this turbo from? A ST165 or a 7M-GTE?
Also what do these mean: inducer 55.4mm, major 69.5mm.

Turbo was originally from a 7MGTE, but is now fitted with a twin entry exhaust housing from an ST185. The housings are interchangeable.
inducer 55.4mm is the diamter of the TO4 compressor wheel at the front of the blades, ie: the first part of the wheel that you see when looking down the intake of the compressor housing. The major 69.5mm is the overall diameter of the compressor wheel closest to the turbo's core..
as a comparison, the standard 7MGTE compressor wheel inducer is 46mm diamter.

$275 for garrett to supply the comp wheel
$140 to have exhaust wheel bead blasted, seals replaced & complete assembly balanced (bearings had previously been replaced & were well within tolerances, so saved a packet here)
plus labour to machine compressor housing.
On my little 4AG it made 202hp at the wheels initially (on a dyno dynamics dyno), but was very flat from 6000rpm onwards. Turned out to be that the plug gaps were too wide at 1.1mm for 17psi boost (you could feel the hesitation & power drop), but after regapping to 0.8mm it screamed on to 7500rpm without flattening out. Havn't had a chance to re-dyno it though.
how does your IJ go with this turbo? What RPM do you hit full boost?

hiflow goes good on stock boost 9psi and on 17psi its a different car .. dont know when it hits full boost i have no tacho atm
yeah that hiflow is cheap .. i think the bits that cost me extra is cause i go all new seals and bearings .. and ct26 turbo are not ver cheap to rebuild i heard .. t04 's are cheaper to rebuild

Dan:
I have a good mate who's a fitter & turner, so labour was very cheap All the turbo shop had to do was to clean up & balance the turbo for $140 (cooma diesel services in canberra). Garrett in Chipping Norton supplied the compressor wheel, machined to suit toyota CT26, for the $275 (trade). The front & rear seals are only about $6 each for the toyota turbos.
slylux: a complete rebuild kit (everything you need provided that the wheels & core aren't damaged) for the CT26 was $380 retail last I checked. this is parts only, so if you cant rebuild it yourself, then labour will be on top of this. TO4's are cheaper for parts, cause they're so damn common!
cheers
Phil

Thanks heaps for the info Phil
My dad's a fitter and turner so i could get it done as well. Do you have any info on what actually was needed to be done to the turbo turning wise? I could hand it to my dad with all the internals and he'd just look at me funny i guess but if i had some kind of needed measurements he'd be able to do it no questions asked
Do you need to have a foot in the door with Garrett to get the T04 internals at trade prices? Some places give me a discount because i'm a Toymods member but Garrett? i doubt it
Thanks again for the info!

Give him the standard compressor wheel from the CT26, and tell him to copy the profile of the back of the wheel onto the garrett one (they are quite different). He'll also need to ream out the diameter of the hole through the wheel (for the shaft) to 6.5mm from memory, and reduce the overall thickness from front to back to the same as the CT26 wheel.
I'm sure this wont make sense on paper, but if you had each wheel in your hands right now, you'd get what i'm trying to say.
Then its just a matter of re-profiling the compressor housing to suit the shape & size of the TO4 wheel.
I'm not really sure why the guy at Garrett gave me trade. I didnt tell him a business name or anything, maybe he just felt sorry for me for being crazy enough to think that anyone else could do the job.
